2008 g35x smoking in rain

This happened to me 4 times so i know it's not just a fluke. I was wondering if it happens to anyone else and if anyone knows of a reason or cause.

It happens when it rains and i do highway driving, when i come to a stop (usually in my driveway) i notice smoke or steam coming from the front grill. Its alot like if someone has a radiator leak or something but it dosent smell like antifreeze and it goes away after a few minutes. I assume its whatever is getting wet is burning off but it looks bad like the car is overheating. it only happens in the rain so i know its water related. Seems weird to me that a new car does this.

anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

I think what you're seeing is just steam, your car is hot when you stop, and the cold air and water are hitting the hot surface and making steam, it's not smoke. I think every car will do it if you watch!

it's water hitting the headers/exhaust/hot components and steaming. nothing to worry about!

+3 water hitting any points over 212 degrees will form steam.

get the car good and hot then hit a big 4" deep puddle. check out that "smoke" son! lol

i have the same problem. Not every G does it or people would understand that its not like a little bit of steam. Its tons of steam like there is a fire under your hood.

At least i am not the only one, and yes it is tons of steam. I am glad to hear it dosent sound like anything serious but it is definetly strange that some do it and some do not do it.

Actually it's kind of embarrassing when i pull up in my new car and it looks like its on fire.

I've seen that happen on cars that were recently washed, and then left idling for a few minutes.

The steam billows out of the front grill, like something is wrong.

LOL... I almost soiled myself the fist time I saw this happening to my G!
Yeah, it's steam, but the car looks and sounds like it's gonna blow when it happens.

I had this same exact thing happen to me, and I agree that people that haven't experienced it don't realize that it's enough for people think your car is on fire. Here is my previous post: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08/193761-steam-under-hood-lots.html

Steam isnt my problem but I do notice a chemical odor periodically when I shut the car off.

On a side note, its been so long since I actually spelled the word odor I had to look it up because o.d.o.r didnt look right. Damn computers are making me stupid.

Thanks for the responses. I am a little less concerned knowing that it seems to be a somewhat common thing. I'll mention it to my dealer when i get my first oil change in about 1000 miles. I am not that confidant that there is a fix but i'll update you guys when i hear there story.

Same problem with steam coming from the hood

I have the same issue as well with lots of steam coming from the hood after a car wash. I will probably ask the dealer as well when I get my oil change too. In regards to the chemical odor when shutting off the car, I do have that same issue as well, I did ask the dealer before and they told me that it was a spray that they put on to the engine and other mechical parts to prevent/protect from seasalt corrosion during shipping from Japan to U.S. I noticed this is happening to a lot of new car that are not build in the state, including BMWs. The odor tends to go away over time.
