Here we go again...

It shows the top speed of the G35x at 130.
I've visited 145 once in mine.

Brings me back to the other thread we've been going on and on in.
What IS the real top end of these cars intended to be, and why do they differ so much???

Does it really matter 130-145. If you get caught doing either one you're probably going straight to jail. I prefer the AWD because I live in an area where it snows, and my drive-way is behind my house on a long hill. Getting my car up the drive-way in the snow is more challenging than commuting home on a snow covered highway.

But the difference in performance between the 2 is neglible at best.

One thing is they usually limit the top speed under the speed rating of your OEM tires. So what is the speed rating of the 17" OEM all seasons that come standard on the X.

I don't know what my top speed in my X is because I don't take it to the track and I'm not crazy enough to do it on the street.

Here's another interesting article on this AWD VS RWD on the G35.

I saw 135-140 a couple of times when I first got my G, hard to say exactly, you really need to watch the road more than the speedo at that speed. I will say it was still pulling strong, when the my senses came through and I backed down, I bet it will do 150MPH!

This quote says it all for me:

"Wet or dry, the awd G35x was far easier to drive quickly."

I have friends who are talented racers, but personally I'm not one. The AWD is more fun for me than the RWD. Unless you are drag racing (and why you'd do that in a G is beyond me) then straight line 0-60 shouldn't be your #1 concern.

From the article summary:

"If you're more concerned about having fun than posting top lap times, consider the G35x."

I think the problem was at the start because most magazines were testing the x with a crapy oem all season tires. They've got .2 sec due to that.

AWD will have slightly more drivetrain loss, until all of the power is being transferred to the back. However, you have superior traction off the line, and the RWD is more than capable of spinning its tires from a dead stop, even just stomping the gas in an auto.

Any owners in so-cal want to set up a meeting to get some solid results?

I test drove both and couldn't tell the difference. Ultimately purchased the X because I need the AWD for winters in DC. My only big regret at the time was that it didn't have the paddle shifters. Now that I can get those thanks to Lemodular's post and Jason selling the kits, I think I'll have the perfect G35.

If you live in a colder climate, I highly recommend the X. It handles incredibly well in wintry weather, and you barely notice the difference in summer weather - even with OEM wheels/all season tires.

Also, R&T compared the prices without options. Fully loaded, the price difference between the G35x and 335xi is $12k.

Regards,
Tamir
