I have had my 08 G35 now for 2 weeks and maybe it just doesn't exist .... but I cannot find any mention of an external temp guage/reading. Is there one?

Should be in your center gauges between the tach and speedo. There's an LCD screen - using the top button on the right upper curve of that pod, you can scroll through screens, showing distance to empty, mpg etc. - and external temp.

 

Check your trip computer out. Read more on page 2-27 of your owner's manual.
