Chrome scratches on lip

Just noticed some scratches in the chrome lip on my trunk. They're not deep (can't feel them), but are causing some prism effects - and they won't rub off.

On scratches on the paint, I would typically use Scratch-X, which works great - any ideas on what to use on chrome? Don't want to make it worse - am hoping folks like Shane with detailing experience can help.

Thanks

I haven't tried it out yet but George of Detailed Image stated this.

He says you can try Scratch-X on it.

i always use smart wool then polish, but it will make it look bad at first, then when you use the polish it will clean it right up.

I never tried anything on chrome. Looking forward to see more ideas.

Well, if it's plastic chrome, which I believe it is, I don't know if anything will remove scratches, I'd be very careful, you may just make it worse!

I have a very small one as well on my trunk chrome...and have just been letting it alone because I'm scared of doing anything that will make it worse. If anybody does try ScratchX or anything similar please post process and results..I'd be very interested to see that.

Don't try to do anything with it... you simply can't fix scratches in chrome. You'll only make it worse.

Does Infiniti sell a replacement piece? Might be the only way to go, short of painting over it.

Incorrect. Of course you can polish chrome, you just need to use the right compound. I've personally used 0106FF on chrome and achieved positive results.

Is it chrome or is it chrome paint? There is a difference in the way you take care of each.

I read a post from someone who painted this chrome strip and I recall him saying he sanded it down and he when through several layers of chrome and copper. So even if it is plastic, it appears to be real chrome on top (whatever voodoo they use to do that...), especially if there is copper underneath.

I searched but could not find the post.

^That would sure be good to know if it was a real chrome! Make it better IMO! But, even real chrome is hard to rid of scratches, tried on a few vehicles with chrome bumpers I've owned, and no results!

when and if you do get it fixed, I recommend putting some 3M paint protection film on it if you want to keep it in mint condition

You certainly can polish chrome, and I didn't say you couldn't. Have you removed scratches from chrome?
