At start give it 30 seconds at least to warm up. Then drive normally for a few minutes so all the fluids can get to the optimum temperatures needed to fully be able to protect your car. After the few minutes engage the heavy foot!
you in cali
No need for you to warm it up.
In cold climates there is a need for that.
But you got nothing to worry about.
You actually have to worry about cooling it down more then warming it up.

I'll sit in for at least a minute. Sometimes I'll start the car, run inside and eat my breakfast quickly before heading out so everything is nice and toasty.
My main reason for letting the car warm up is getting the trans warm. I hate how rough it shifts when its cold. But I think my car has an engine block warmer on it or something (not sure if thats an accessory available from the dealer) because on the occasions where I'm in a hurry the car and I get up and go, the car literally warms up within a minute.

i agree with all of you, i think warming up is pretty vital...sometimes i wish we had the cool tachometers like the e46 m3 where it shows you the actual redline of the vehicle in certain states.
I wait until the temp needle gets just above the bottom line. Usually its right about the time it hits 1000-1100 rpm. Then pull away.
Yes I'm in Cali...so that amount of time varies and is definitely not as long as those of you in cold climates. But its typically in the low 30s in the winter. During the summer I'm usually waiting for the air conditioner to get going instead of the car warming up.

Usually, 30 seconds is good enough to get the juices flowing, then drive conservatively until it's fully warmed up. But on the 0-degree days, I warm it up for 5-10 minutes so the interior gets nice and warm for me...
