I always warm up my G. For cold start I let it run couple minutes or until tach meter drops below 1000. Non cold start I let it run 15 seconds.

In cold climates there is a need for that.

But you got nothing to worry about.

You actually have to worry about cooling it down more then warming it up.
Thanks for the wrong information.
Read your manual -
It says you need to let it warm up for 30 seconds to let the fluids circulate.

Seems you folks waiting 5 -10 minutes to warm up your Gs are wasting fuel. According to a number of reports I've read (some auto tech magazines, etc.) over the many years of driving, the best way to warm up your cold climate car is wait about a minute after starting her up, and drive easily for the first few miles. A cold engine driven too hard at first burns a lot of gas, and the engine may be warm if you let run for 10 minutes as some of the forum members indicate here, but the tranny, steering and break fliuds are Cold. That's not good for the car, according to reports mentioned earlier and to some of the Mechanical expert discussions heard on local radio broadcasts.

Makes sense, I think.

I drive off when I hit about 1100RPM. I imagine this is after about 60-90 seconds. I try to take it easy the first few miles.

as for me... i never do... i just start the car and bone out.. im ALWAYS in a hurry for some reason... lol

you're in LA, like me. start the car, let it idle while you look around the car, mentally slapping one off to how nice it is, throw it in gear, and gtfo.

seriously, just let it idle for 10sec or so while you get your seatbelt on, make sure everything is in order, and go.

think of it this way. ever ridden a bike in way too high of a gear? your feet are basically just free-spinning and it isn't comfortable at all. that's what your car is going through as it idles at startup. you're better off letting it sit for a very short time and then taking it easy on the first part of your drive. DRIVING the car will warm it up far better than idling.

folks keep in mind that he's in so cal. it has hit 30F a few times...but that's about it.

i wonder how this cars warm up air fuel ratio is. older cars were really rich on cold start. but i remember seeing a feature of this car was a quick warm up. I am thinking it runs somewhat lean on cold starts to help the temps come up quickly.

(leaner=hotter....richer=cooler)

when leaving the garage, i sit in it til the rpms begin to drop while selecting my music, then goto reverse.

when leaving work i put it in D after only maybe 20seconds. UNLESS its really cold, then i will sit in it for 30 secs lol. after putting int 9 or 10hrs in the factory, you dont wanna be there any longer than needed.
