yes it is 6 forward gears, 7 total.

"With its additional forward gear, the new automatic transmission has... "

I think it's definitely a 7 speed automatic because JATCO, which makes transmissions for Nissans, showed a 7 speed AT about 6 mos ago. It was clear that transmission was going to go into the G35/37 in the future.
With respect to the quote, if you look at the whole 2 paragraphs, you will clearly see that the phrase, "with its additional forward gear" refers to the comparison between the 6MT vs. 7AT, not the old 5AT vs. a new 6AT. Here's the quote in context:
As you can see, in the paragraph before, it mentions the 6MT. Then, it goes on state with an additional gear, the AT has a wider spread of ratios...

"As well as a smooth shifting six-speed manual transmission, the G37 will be available with a new seven-speed automatic option with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) allowing a downshift blip control.
With its additional forward gear, the new automatic transmission has a wider spread of ratios which benefits both fuel consumption and drivability. The seventh speed is effectively an overdrive ratio, returning improved fuel economy on a steady throttle without compromising in-gear flexibility for overtaking."

Around what period of time will we find out about the US version of the 2009 G35(37?) sedan? Is there a chance we'll hear about it in the New York Auto show?
I am interested in getting the car and if there aren't any of the changes like what we've seen from the Euro version, I just want to get the car now.

we are excited because the engine is an improvement, and 7sp a/t is a nice upgrade, maybe not as big of a deal as 330 to 335
also have to note that alot, and i mean A LOT of items in the G comes standard, everything in the bimmer is an option, that is pretty cool and all, but to compare, you pretty much need to add in all that is standard on the G and then compare it to the bimmer, and then add whatever package (prem/sport/nav/tech) and then compare again, i doubt the price is like 3k difference

Seems like Infiniti is now requiring password to view the Infinitipress.eu website. Probably because they know people would pass on an '08 G35 Sedan if they knew an '09 with the 3.7L and 7A/T were coming. Too bad for them I printed out copies of the G37 Sedan and EX37 Crossover overviews. Tee hee.

is there any mention anywhere regarding price adjustments?

Either that or you could settle for American made junk again.

I'm hoping that the G37 sedan comes to the US because on infiniti.com they announced the 2009 FX and which comes with either a 5.0 liter V8 or a 3.5 liter V6, i didn't see any mentioning of a 3.7 liter engine. Seven speed automatic transmission is in the FX so thats a good thing... more likely the 2009 G sedan will have it as well.
