Exactly. You can push it in manual mode, but you can't really sustain the drift. I thought the 5AT came with the same rear end as the 6mt before I got the G35. You can however do a custom LSD job and bump up the power and you should be fine.

There is a BMI video (I think on the new RX-8 DVD) of one of the first turbo charged Z33's in japan which was a 5AT and Tsuchia was drifting it pretty easily.

There is also a pretty famous guy in japan that drifts a turbo altessa (IS300 in the states) on the touge.

The Sport models come with VLSD, whether AT or 6MT. To me the difference is that with the 6MT you can really break the rear wheels lose by dropping the clutch on a downshift, whereas with the AT it's a smoother transition so it's harder to break loose. Not impossible, of course

not for the 5AT that I know of. I've heard you can use the LSD from the 6MT lsd's but it takes a little custom work.

The title of the video is Best Motoring International "rotory reborn". They show the turbo Z right before the tuned Z battle.

you mean clutch kick. It's definitely more difficult to drift a AT car. But seriously, the guys on Top Gear drift every car they drive and many are automatics...

To really get the G or the Z sideways, mt or at, you need more power. The G and Z are far too heavy.

It's not drifting, but if I can make my car do this: https://g35driver.com/forums/media-share-v36-sedan/213489-my-day-funtion-tuned-va-ngc.html, then drifting shouldn't be an issue! Click on the photobucket link in this thread to see what I'm talking about.

Quite simple:

1) Roll windows up (cuts down on smoke in the cabin);
2) Put the car in DS Mode (preffered method is to use paddle shifters)
3) Roll (1st gear - 5-10mph) into a CLOSED area (saftey of course);
4) Turn the wheel slightly to whichever side you plan on whipping the tail end too;
5) Toggle between 1st and 2nd (if need be) - Pump (yes I said pump) the gas peddle as car turns and remains in a spot for a 1 -2 sec.; get's car moving again . . .
6) Oh, put on your favorite music!

just the gas pedal doood. It's a simple doughnut, not even close to drifting. Plus it looked like the pavement was wet too.

negative. It apparently is a little different. Even the final drives on the AT pumpkin are different from the ones that come with the 6MT

From everything I've read and heard, Quaife makes a drop in LSD for the cars that came w/o it from the factory, and it's supposedly the best on the market. If you want to change out the one from a Z or one of the Sport G's you have to have some kind of axle stub thats different from the non-VLSD to the VLSD model. Quaife's is supposed to be the ****e though

It did rain. However, makes no difference in the G!
