Anyone replace the windshield yet??

I just noticed a pretty nasty crack in the upper right side of my windshield today. Its pretty obvious it took a rock and cracked. So far its about 6 inches long. I have another one, thats about 2-3 inches in the middle. Its obviously not going to pass inspection, which is due this month.

Has anyone replaced a windshield yet? How much did it cost? Dealership or elsewhere?!?! Thanks!!

I have two big rock chips in mine too and will be replacing. Mine will be covered under insurance for bigger damage though, as some stuff fell off a truck in front of me.

However...back to your question...I remember reading a post a while back about windshield replacements. IIRC, OP said that they went aftermarket because it was cheaper, but I think it was Mike from Riverside said to get OEM because the glass is noticeably better, and just let insurance cover it. Going aftermarket should be about the cost of your insurance premium, so might as well pay your premium and get the better glass. Some insurance companies cover free glass replacement too...but not many...

I was quoted by a local glass shop in MD at just under $300 after paying taxes and install for a new windshield paid for out of pocket, no insurance or anything.

Is this something I should be concerned about??

no it's not I install glass on a daily basis...all auto glass is required to meet D.O.T. standards so oem vs. aftermarket is not a big deal...just make sure it is a reliable company and an experienced installer doing your car, ask them questions about the urethane they are using to install your w/s...some urethane's need to be heated to 180 degrees to be effective in drying but other than that it is pretty painless

Does the replacement look good? I have to set up an appointment to get mine replaced today. Go figure. I have never had a cracked winsheild before. This car is cursed I think (flooded, minor accident and now this)

I have an 08 6MT and had a rock jump out of the freeway onto the center of my windshield (~70mph). It caused a pretty deep circle crack.

The next day (important to go ASAP after a crack), I went to an Allstar Glass in Irvine, CA. The guy there was pretty cool. He told me he'd try to fix it for $60. If I'm not satisfied and wanted to replace the windshield, he would waive the $60 and charge the replacement fee. The crack ended up being too deep to repair completely, although it was fixed. Mostly it became a cosmetic thing and I might as well pay a little more for a new windshield.

I have comprehensive insurance so I only ended up paying $100 deductible while the insurance co took about $800. So far it's held up well. There might be a small sealant leak because my cabin's a tad bit noisier than it was before.

Otherwise, i can see just fine

I just picked it up. It looks fine. I am not sure how well they put the 2 small rubber pieces at the base of the windshield back on. They seem to just be kind of sitting there. I am going to keep my eye on those. There is also tape across the top that I am supposed to take off this evening or tomorrow. It seems to look the same though...

Thanks for the update. I get mine done Friday morning. I guess the place I went with only uses official Infiniti glass. I guess that doesn't make much difference though from what I have seen on this forum

hokiesean24...Hey that tape across the top is just a security measure to make sure your w/s doesn't slide while drying that is normal for the urethane they used...What rubber things were you talking about at the bottom?

and the guy in Irvine forgot your s/n...if you have a wind noise just bring your car back to the guy that did it and they can re-seal were it is leaking and seeing you went through your ins. they will make you a priority because if you tell your ins.co they will get involved and dispute payment...G/L
