Is Teflon protection from Dealer worth $500

Picking up a new G Friday. Wondering if I should get the Teflon protection the dealer is offering for $500. I think they said it is guaranteed for 5 years and is interior and exterior protection.

I searched the site but for some reason couldn't come up with any threads. I'm sure this has probably been discussed many times but I'd appreciate any thoughts or links.

Thanks

Rip Off!

The consensus on here is that those add ons (paint protectant and leather treatment) are a rip off. You'd do better buying some quality paint sealant/protectant and applying it yourself. And don't buy the clear bra through the dealer either...they mark that up 100%. I got my clear bra installed by the guy that does installs for the Infiniti dealer that I bought my car from...the dealer wanted $1200, he charged me $700 through his shop for more coverage than the dealer offered.

I took the same stuff for $500 as you got offered.

I picked up my new G35 last Saturday.
I am getting two things. Clear coat (I guess this is similar as you got quoted. I am also paying $500) and clear bra.

For clear bra, I am getting from dealer at $695 which I think it is reasonable price since it covers front hood bumper, side mirror, 4 door holes, right blow trunk.

Regarding your question, you can see my thread (I think we are asking same thing) https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v36-2007-08/208480-paint-leather-protection-package.html

Since I don't have coated on my car yet, I cannot say whether it worth or not from my own experience.
However, when I saw the car just finished the paint coating, I think it is worth along with 5 year warranty.

But this is just my thought when I saw the car with coating. To tell the truth, I don't know.

Clear bra the whole car FTW. Just kidding but that would be tight.

Are you sure it's "teflon" coating? If so, you might want to take a look at this:
http://www.tetrachim.com/html/ang/teflon.asp
"Teflon®‚ industrial finishes can be applied on carbon steel, aluminium, stainless steel, steel alloys, brass and magnesium, as well as non-metallics such as glass, glassfiber, some rubber and plastics. Optimum adhesion is obtained by sand blasting the surface prior to application of the coating."

That's so you pay THEM to hide the swirl marks!!

+1 its a waste of money. Use the money to get a clear bra.

In June of 03 I paid $1495 for the "NW Package", which was had already been installed at the port. In the excitement of the moment, I allowed myself to get screwed. Five or six complete details would have been a better investment, It probably cost Infiniti $100-150 for materials and labor.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting the autobahn clear bra for $695 and did not get the teflon. The teflon was simonize series 5 which is guaranteed by simonize if it is installed by a certified installer. I spoke to my detailer and said to get a true teflon coating it has to be heated to something like 600 degrees. He said he can put either wax or teflon on to seal at a fraction of the cost. The business manager at the dealer called me this afternoon and told that there is now a $500 dollar rebate and that I qualified for it. I ended up using to get a three year road hazard policy on the wheels and tires. With all of the pot holes up here in the North East right now I thought that was a pretty good deal. If you are buying this month I would ask about the rebate. I ended getting a black on black 6mt g35s with navi, premium package, spoiler and mud guards. I traded in a 2005 TL and I love the G. I forgot how nice it is to drive a rear wheel drive car. There are too many things I like better about the G to list but obviosly the look is much nicer, rear wheel drive, the voice recognition is much better, the seats, steering wheel, bose studio on wheels, the 18 inch wheels look awesome IMO. I can keep going if anyone would like to hear more..... Anyway I am phsyched and love the car.....

It's BS, don't get it. Wax it up yourself with Klasse 2-bottle system or Nu Finish.

It may be worth it for the warranty....that's it.

Clear bra is better.

"Teflon coat" is basically a good wax job.

But, since the paint and clearcoat SUCK on this car. You definitely want something done.

I think NuFinish is the stuff I use--because I only have time to apply it once a year and the stuff lasts forever.

Guys, think of it this way. The product we offer at my dealership is GUARENTEED for 5 years. Looks off? We repaint your car.

I'd be more than happy to give you guys some extreme demonstrations on my personal car. Got spray paint? go for it. Light a fire on my car? I'm down. Hard water spots? doesn't happen.

Wax and commercially available sealants dont come with a guarentee. Dealer products do.

If it really lasts for a year, after shampooing your car, water should still bead up after you rinse it off.

Last night I took the G out for the second time. The car was parked outside of my sisters house and a cat with muddy paws jumped all over it. It actually scratched the paint in several places. I am hoping that my detailer can get them out. I wonder if the teflon would have protected against this and if I would have been covered by the warranty. Typically my car is garaged so this really chaps my #*#......
