Well after alot of experimenting- I think I figured out how to get decent MPGs with this car-

I have a 6M-

This was with 70% freeway driving-

First the experiment-

I ran the car on flat freeway for several 8 mile stretches-

At 75 MPH- I got 23 MPG
At 70 MPH- I got 26 MPG
At 65 MPH- I got over 28 MPG-

Street

When accelerating- I barely pushed gas-

when shifting at 3000 RPM- I got 19 MPG
when shifting at 2000-2400 RPM I got 21 MPG
when I shifted at 1800 RPM I got 23 MPG

Using what I learned- I just averaged over 26 MPG on a tank of gas-DOMO

How many total miles were put on the car to get that many mpg?

So you'd basically have to baby your G, shifting early, light pedal on the gas, keeping a low speed on the freeway.

Might as well buy a Prius.

I don't mind paying at the gas pump.....I smile knowing that I'm going to have fun in my car.....and drive the way I please.

By the way......driving 65 on the freeway in the G........its almost difficult.
Cars passing you.
Revs sitting at about 3........begging to be pushed higher.
LOL......if I see a G cruising in the right lane at 65 mph......I'll know that he's probably read your post.
And I'll be flying by on the left with a wide grin on my face.

Whereas I respect your efforts to get better gas mileage from the G, there is not way I am driving at 65-75mph in the G on the freeway. The car just loves to be pushed.

I also played around and got to know my G.
I've gotten it up to 27.7 on a 50 mile trip from home to work 50/50 city/highway.

I'm back down to 18.something cause I love M mode and drive her the way she wants to be driven.
I have pulled out of my garage in the morning though, seen it at a quarter tank and running late, I skip the stop at the gas station. Driving easy, I get to work and home without filling up.

Very interesting.... I have a automatic and I have never gone over 23mpg average even for a long trip (Orange county, CA to Scottsdale, AZ).

Shifting at 1800 can't be healthy for your car, the engine is definitely going to be bogged down.

Thanks for the interesting post, but I'm in cahoots with everyone else. I don't mind paying an extra $5 a tank to have fun and enjoy my car, rather than having to baby my car to save a few MPG. Nice to know it's a possibility if I want to drive it like a Hurst though.

26mpg hwy...no problem

While it's true that most people know that driving slower and reving lower yields higher fuel economy, this is supposed to be a fun car to drive. I'm pretty sure that, while no one here condones driving reckless, we do like to drive with a little spirit on occasion otherwise whats the sense in owning a machine like this?
Hey, if 26mpg (hwy) is all your after then just move up here to Canada. Our gallon has 20% > volume, and a mile is still a mile any where you live. I get over 28 mpg (hwy) driving 80mph. Oh btw..that Canadian gallon of 94 oct. will ONLY run you about $5.60 up here but who cares when it's so much fun burning it?

I just think its funny-

I see a post a week about someone complaing about bad MPGs with this car-

I just wanted to prove to the "complainers" that the only person to fault is the person behind the wheel-

A while back, I reset my computer as I got on the interstate, after 85 miles, when I was exiting, my average mpg was 26.8, average mph was 74.5.
