My first redline...by accident...

I finally put the car into sport mode and put it in first gear....I didn't know it would not shift out of first!!!! I thought the Manual mode Auto would shift the car (thinking it was my Bimmer...duh)...the thing redlined and hovered at like 7800 rpm for awhile till I noticed...it had less than 400 miles on it and hope I didn't break anything.

Ok..I'm really liking this car more and more...I've only owned one other Nissan product in my life and it was an 80's Datsun 210 wagon...baby blue..and gutless as crap..it only topped out at 80mph. This is definitely a different breed of animal!!!

Sport Mode(DS) will shift for you, you must have put it into 1st using the paddles or shifter. DS and manual are in the same spot, it just changes to manual when you shift.

As for the redline, you'll be fine. There are some that think the breakin period is a bunch of whoohey anyways, but I don't think anybody would say that one redline will do any damage.

I put the gear in 1st on the paddle...I wasn't anticipating it would not shift...but this is basically EXACTLY what I wanted in a car with manualmatic..Kudos to Nissan.

Yeah..my car is now toast...j/k..it's a lease..I'm not too worried.

Manual will shift automatically to protect the engine, but it does it at true redline which is 8500. around 8200 the engine throttle drops, but if you keep riding it it goes into 2nd. I experienced first hand. after a 3 hour trip I got off the highway exit and rolled to the light. Not realizing I was in M the whole time the car auto-downshifted. then when I went thought the light I didn't realize it until it was too late, the engine throttle cut in 1/2, I first noticed the hesitation, looked down, and then it put it into 2nd gear.

you didn't damage anything it probably does more good for the car then bad. engines like to be blown out. seriously.

First of all, stop passing off wrong information. The redline of the VQ35HR is 7500RPM, where you pulled 8200 and 8500 is beyond me. 2nd of all, manual mode WILL NOT shift for you in case of a rev-limiter hit, it will keep redlining and redlining and redlining. 3rd of all, unless I read your post incorrectly, going from 1st to 2nd is UPSHIFTING, not "Auto-Downshifting". 4th of all, unless your wheels are losing traction from a fast launch or from kicking the a.ss out and you have VDC ON, the motor NEVER cuts throttle.

i think he's just being sarcastic chili.

my opinion on the redline, don't worry about it. you're not the only who has done this and the VQ engine line is strong enough to handle it

Think he meant that the G shifted down when he slowed down, which it will do even in M at a slow enough speed. Then he was locked in that gear.

When you slow down to stop, Manual mode will downshift for you to prevent you from stalling but it will NOT upshift, it'll just bounce you off the rev limiter.

Wow, rough day... go kill a cat or something to let that anger out. your going to die at 30 of an aneurysm with all that rage.

Do you even own a new model G35? The car does auto-downshift. and yes limiter is true redline, they set it at 7500, but the revlimiter stops it at it's true redline. And the car will autoshift if you run too long at that. it happened to me, not lying here. it does not do it if you slam it, but run it for a few seconds at that limit and the car actually auto-switches to D mode but still shows it in manual mode...

BTW - What is a limiter? how does it limit? well it does so by cutting the throttle... or did you think it applied the brake?

So settle down, and come back when you have a 07/08 G35.

you have nothing to fear, you will hear a million stories...some will say take care for 1200 miles...others say beat the crap out of it

basically what it comes down to is.......you have nothing to fear if you hit the redline a few times.....just as long as your not SLEEPING on the redline
