I agree. I dont fully trust the rearview camera. I can park 3x faster just by looking back.
I scared someone once. I was putting finishing touch on my parking so I used the camera to back up to make sure it gets close without hitting the car in the back. The driver was inside the car behind and she notice that I wasn't looking back and as I got closer and closer, I can see the look on her face, it was hilarious.

It's a shame the tech package requires the NAV package... While I'd splurge for the tech package - the cost of the NAV package ruins it for me. Can I afford it - yes absolutely... But I strive to live significantly below my means. And my value for the NAV package just doesn't make it worthwhile.
If I used my GPS daily - I'd splurge for NAV too, but I use it less than 10 times a year.

I never use cruise control on any of my cars and prefer to be more involved in driving, rather than just being a spectator. I did not want to get the Tech package on my '08 G35 because of the potential negative functionality of the Intelligent Cruise Control (in addition to being useless to me), as described in this Car and Driver column: http://www.caranddriver.com/features..._charge_column
Besides that, I did not think the Adaptive Lights and the Pre-Crash Seatbelts were necessary, and did not warrant the additional expense of $1,100.
Ultimately, it is your decision. If you think you need it (or want it) then go for it.
Just my .02c

I have an 07, and let me tell you, if i could have just gotten the cam with my Navi pkg, i would have been sure to get it. It was a darn shame that you couldnt get the cam as a stand alone option. Now that it is part of NAVI, i think the Navi option should be a no brainer. I have never gotten to see the cam in action, but hear that it shows path projection of the car. I recently re-converted my garage from an office to park my garage queen during the week, and wish i had the factory camera more than ever each time i back my G in.
I didnt need the ICC (im in NJ, never even an opportunity to use any cruise control in north jersey), and the adaptive headlights seem like more of a novelty to me than a useful ($1100?) tool. I say Tech is not required, but the Navi is a must. It is put together so well on the G it would be a shame to not equip it. I do hear, however, that the voice commands on the 08's are worse, so something to look at before committing.
