I think my nav is well worth it. There are some who have said they don't have new streets but that has been FAR from the problem for us. In fact, it has roads that aren't even open yet as just dotted lines so they are there for later.

For me it was the other things that came with the nav that made me chose it. I'm not sure about 08 but for '07, you had to get Nav to get the HD on the radio.

YES....it makes everything easier and as Trey said, it's the other things that come with it as well.

Plus..it looks better, too.

Navigation Package ($2,150)

- Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System with touchscreen, Lane Guidance and 3-D building graphics
- XM NavTraffic® providing Real-Time Traffic[1] information
- 9.3GB Music Box hard drive and compact flash slot for playing MP3 files
- Infiniti Voice Recognition for climate control, audio, information and navigation systems
- RearView Monitor

OR

Alternative Navigation Package ($550-750)

80gb Ipod $250
Garmin Black Box (GVN 520) $300-500 (check link below for Garmin DIY)

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-audio-video-electronics/177080-no-factory-navigation-here-s-navi-alternative.html

Sure you won't have voice recognition...but that's cheesy anyways IMO (just like microsoft sync...real cheesy IMO) And living in Atlanta, I know when there's traffic on the road. Monday thru Friday, there is traffic from 8AM - 10AM, and 5PM-7PM...none on weekends and probably goin to be traffic on weekends with monday holidays.

If you're a baller and don't like to do any technical work, then go for it. If you like saving money like I do, then go with the alternate route...or you could always call Suze Orman on CNN money

The navi on the 08 is not bad. The music box is pointless. Being able to rip music only from CD in a sub tape deck quality is BS IMO.

You cant even transfer any mp3 tracks you have to the HD.

The backup camera and voice recognition does work well and I cant complain.

I still think my GF's Garmin Nuvi 780 is easier to navigate and use.

I just don't see how 2150 + tax + interest you're paying over time is worth the convenience of backup camera and navi. Especially if you know you can buy a remote-mount GPS system for 200 dollars.

I don't regret getting any packages because with the saved money I have been able to buy an awesome JL sound system (about to go in once I dynamat), ipod, spoiler, and all these other wonderful parts to further distinguish my car from the pack. I'm not tryin to start any flame wars here, but I just don't see it.

Its worth it. When I sold my 07 and started looking at other cars and their nav setups (for the same price) its a no-brainer. Its a great system, it belongs in the car, its factory equipment, the voice recognition is really good, I use it for everything.

I say use, because my new vehicle has the same system in it...

Off topic but Sean, what did you end up with? I was following your whole BMW experience.

There is no way that you get $2100 of benefit from the Navi package. The hard drive is useless if you have an Ipod. The compact flash is useless for the same reason. The navigation is great but it is not twice as good as a Garmin or TomTom. However, the back-up camera is the real deal!

I bought mine with Navi solely for the Back-up camera. I can’t back-up to save my life. The back-up camera changed that. Now it isn’t worth the $2100 but it is a feature I no longer will do without.

If you want to save some money you can by deleting the Navi package. However, the G35 Navi package is one of the best executions of a Navi package that I have ever encountered.

the Infiniti Nav is the best ever made. it's far superior to all other OEM systems. The backup camera is also the best on the market with line tracking of your car's steering.

Keep in mind your not spending $2000 and throwing it away. The car will resale for $500 more with that package. Not to mention you are getting a great integrated naviation with backup and voice regognition, Musicbox hard drive and navigation that works with XM Traffic (which is also a great service depending on where you live) A large integrated touchscreen panel. no need to suction cup other components to your window... it's a clean solution that's worth the money

I say it's 100% worth every penny!

there is a navi alternative that requires a little hidden black box...so no need for suction cups on the window with another tiny screen. and if you're worried you will lose your RCA connector inside the armrest, you can just buy a $20 A/V selector with more than 1 port

I'm with the anti oem dvd/garmin GVN route (uses stock oem screen, no suction cup here), updates street via website and sd card

would've considered nav pkg if the price was more reasonable and able to perform some of the functions when car is in motion
