from what i've seen, the 07+ are 3 to 5 mpg lower than the earlier cars.

My mileage goes from 20 to 25.... all depends on how I drive... and when I pull out the paddles.... i can drop it further dwn to 18.

However, I'd suggest leaving your car in gear when going down hill. Reason is if it's in neutral and coasting the car's computer has to keep the fuel flowing to the injectors to keep the engine running. Whereas if you have the car in gear when going down hill, the car's speed will keep the engine running and in that condition, the engine will not need fuel to keep running..

This is a compelling comment, I tried both leaving in gear and coasting over the past few weeks. Found that the drag of engine braking over about 1500 rpm is pretty significant, while coasting at speeds over 20 mph results in the bar graph reading 60+ mpg. Of course coasting at 70 or 80 with the engine in idle would give great mileage, but I cannot quantify this because I do not know how much gas it uses idling. (anyone know how much gas this engine uses idling for one hour?)

I've got about 6100 miles now on my '08, and I get almost like clockwork 21.1 average on a full tank of gas, probably a 70% highway cruiser at 70mph. The other 30% of the miles out of a tank are around the neighborhood and I have a couple of "closed courses" (just in case the ***** are watching - lol) where I can blister the car through 2 and half gears.

If you really want to test the mpg calc for yourself: reset the trip, fill the tank 100%, run the fuel down to near empty, record the trip reading, then fill her up and jot down the number of gallons needed to bring her back to 100%. Take the trip reading and divide by the gallons

on edit - I see someone already mentioned this - my bad. but I agree, calc it yourself, it's easy. I'll try on mine and see how close it is. this would be an interesting item for members here to calc to see what the error margin is on the computer

That's strange. Your car is full and it says 305 miles to emty. To me that is far from 30 mpg. Maybe that is just my math.

For what it's worth, I just went 207 miles, on 9.542 gallons. Of that 207 miles, I'd say roughly 37 miles was in "city traffic", where I avg. roughly 16 mpg and the remaining 170 was highway, with minor rolling hills.

So a straight 207 miles/9.542 gallons = 21.69 mpg

If you take out the 37 miles in city traffic where I'm getting 16 mpg, my highway gas mileage = 23.52 mpg with a highway speed ranging from 65 mph up to spurts of 85 mph. This included the A/C on and 1 adult with 2 kids..

Oh, I have a 2008 G35X with Sport package...

Last weekend I drove from Charlotte, NC to Albany, NY (~ 750 miles, all highway) and was really surprised by the excellent gas mileage I got from the G. The average from the trip was 26.9 MPG @ 71 MPH! That by far is the best mileage I have seen on my car thus far. Of course once I got to NY my mileage has dropped due to the 10% EtOH they put in the gas here... f'in bast@rds!

Driving local in NY, I was getting around 15-16mph. So, when I got on the highway, I set the cruise to 55mph, then reset the mpg and I was averaging around 29.6mph (100% highway). I only have 4,650 miles on my ride. I never thought it would be possible. Not sure if I can keep driving like a granny though. Oh yea, I got cut by couple of old ladies while driving 55mph (speed limit)

In the 2008 how do you reset the mileage/speed average on in the maintenance display (not the one on the nav)? I want to change mine - It's been saying 18.5mpg/31.9mph for the whole time I've had the car almost. I'm really interested about the 31.9mph one - I strive to drive way past that but the average still hasn't gone up!

Hold down the button below the one that cycles the display and RTFM.

Any of you guys actually drive the G as it ment to be?

LOL

I can't drive my G like a granny. It defets a purpose to own one. If I had to worry that much of the MPG I would of gone with the Lexus.

When you are on the interstate, there isn't much to do other than cruise. Here in Cincinnati, you can't even do that anymore with all the contruction and traffic. In town I tend to have a heavier foot though.

I do, that's why I get crappy gas mileage.

To the RTFM...well, I would but I'm at work without my manual with me (I carpool so I am about 30 miles away from my manual). It really isn't a huge deal to me this thread just reminded me that I would like to do that...so I asked.

Good at least somebody drives it sporty. I just don't see myself driving my G on steady speed. I only used my cruise controll after I bought my G and wanted to try it. After about 30 seconds I turned it off. That's about how much I used and will use my CC.
