2007 G35S / Infiniti Maintenance Question

Hey all,

So I've had my G for over a year now and just took it in for the 15,000 mile service. It ended up costing me about $500 bux (I did opt for the optional de-carbon for like $150).

My BMW had free maintenance up to 50,000 miles. I'm just curious are you guys having to pay for all your maintenance on your G's? I didn't mind the first few services which were like 50-100bux, i didnt really think about it. But $500 is getting kinda pricey so just wanted to get your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

For 15k miles, all I did was get an Oil Change ($44.95), and replaced the Cabin and air filter myself. Total cost was around $90. Dealership charges a grip just for inspection, which can be done by yourself if you know what to look for.

Regrettably, I was ripped off for 15K service at the stealership and would not recommend the 15,000 mile service (all it is an oil change, air filters replaced and a glorified visual checkup). 50,000 maybe, but now I am not so sure. My brother's 2001 Altima never returned to dealership since it was puchased, had oil/brake service done + one recent radiator replacement and is still going strong. Only factory warranty work for the G for now on.

I always do the oil change at the dealer (gotta make these stealerships happy somehow in case of something goes wrong with my car right?), but I did change my own air filter and in-cabin filter.

Changing the air filter was kinda pointless cuz I got the Injen CAI installed not too long since. lol

$0. I paid $1600 when I bought my car for 5 years/75,000 miles free scheduled maintenance.

Like the others posted here, I'll be doing most of the work myself.

I plan to have the dealership do the oil change and rotate the tires. I'll be purchasing and installing new wipers, cabin air-filter and engine air-filter. Are both of the air filters hard to change yourself?

+1 I don't mind spending moiney if it has some value returned, but inspections at 15k miles are pointless. When I get there, I'll have my oil changed but I'll change all the filters and wipers myself.

No, the stock filters are mickey mouse to do.

My dealership continuously calls me hoping to book me in for the 15,000 km service.

I keep hanging up on them.

Doing the vehicle maintenance myself helps me justify the money I spent on my 60" wide tool chest and the tools that I fill it with. So I do most of it myself.
I'd spend at least $15-$20 for oil/filter on a DIY, and then fuel/time for driving down to Napa to buy the parts and again to dump the oil, so $30 at Nissan for an OLF is reasonable. Nissan also lubes the greasepoints, and will mention any wear items that need attention.
My Diesel truck on the other hand: 3 gallons of synthetic oil and a filter is $60 DIY or $120 at the dealership. It's easy for me to crawl around under the truck so I do the OLF myself. It's on a 10k mile maintenance schedule which works out to 6-8 months for me.

I guess I got lucky and I got maintenence thrown in "for free" when I bought it. BMW's "Lifetime Maintenance" was described as 50k miles...I'm like - that's not lifetime in Texas! But anyway, I got the G and service that i have to call in and schedule every 3750 miles that comes with a free detail. I got the first 10 for free, which is OK.

I think it is great that a lot of people perform all manner of maintenance on their car.
Just remember - Make sure, for those that still have Infinity warranty, that you perform the required maintenance to keep that warranty. Nothing like having the dealer tell you that you need a new engine, rear end, transmission, etc... and then be told that you will not be covered under warranty because of a lack of records documenting your required maintenance being performed.
Also, you should take a look at your owner's manual and check which perdiodic maintenance you fall under - 3750 or 7500 miles. At purchase, my salesman told me that I have to come every 3750 to which I said to myself - BS!
Bottom line - make sure you don't give the dealer an excuse to not do maintenance or repairs under warranty.

Theres another dealership here that'll do it for 4 years/50,000 miles for free as long as you buy it from them, plus they'll detail your car for free on the yearly anniversary of your car's purchase.

I imagine they do it to stay competitive with the BMW dealerships in the area and also remain competitive amongst the other Infiniti dealerships in the area.

My dealership that I bought my car from also offers a lifetime powertrain warranty given I have all my scheduled maintenance performed there.
