questions before pulling the trigger

i've liked the g since it first came out and would like to buy a '08 while the getting is good but i have a few questions about some of its past problems.

1. has infiniti replaced the original brake pads with longer lasting pads? i can recall quite a few owners saying that they had to replace the front pads after only 12,000 miles and the rotors after 24,000. i've searched this forum for any mention of this but couldn't find anything so i'm assuming that the problem has been remedied.

2. gas consumption; i'm surprised that the g doesn't get better mileage than the tl because the tl weighs 100 pounds more than the g. is this because the g's auto transmission is geared more towards torque while the tl compromises between torque and fuel economy. can someone tell me how many rpm's the g spins at 70 mph? the tl stays right around 2100 rpm's. if the g's rpm's are significantly higher at 70 mph is this because of the cpu that controls shifts or is it mechanical?

Brake pads - haven't seen anyone mention replacing brake pads on the 2nd gens? Mine have gone through 20k miles of hard driving, including a track day, and I'm just over halfway through the pads. Couldn't be happier.

IIRC, the AT G is running around 3k at 70 - could be a bit higher. It's mechanical, it's geared that way, the AT will get to about 120 mph in 4th... You def don't buy a G for the mileage, but it's worth it.
