Want to improve the MPG on your '07 sedan? Install THROTTLE SENSITIVITY update
Hi Everyone:
I recently took my '07 G35x in for it's 15k service. Prior to leaving it at the dealership, I took a test drive in an '08 G35x to see if I liked the throttle sensitivity of that better than the very light/aggressive throttle sensitivity of my '07. I decided that I prefer the '08's one, because it's more linear and easier to drive smoothly off the line, so I had the dealer apply the update ITB08-017, which changes the throttle sensitivity.
Once of the benefits that I've had immediately is better city mileage. I do a lot of city driving. Since getting the update last week, I reset the mileage to see what the difference would be. I used to average 15 to 16 MPG, and right now I'm at 19. I do believe that in heavy traffic in particular, this throttle update makes a fairly big difference in MPG. I may be wrong - this is only what I've seen, but in these times of expensive gas prices, it's something to consider. Course once you apply this update, you can't get it back to the way it was before the update, so I would recommend test driving an '08 first to see if you like the updated mapping.
Cheers

I also recently drove an 08 X loaner and I immediately noticed the throttle difference and that car was getting 2-3 mpg better than mine with my same commute.
I'm one of the few who like the sensitive throttle and I personally disliked the 08's feel. Most call it linear... I call it numb.
I'll stay with my thirsty sensitive throttle, but I also agree with your findings.

I don't have much choice.
The dealership told me that in Canada there is no updates for the sensitive throttle issue.
"The updates have not gotten to Canadians yet" I believe what what they told me...
Hum.

yes.. I got the ITB08-017 done on mine in the last service visit..and I saw atleast a 2 mpg improvement in city driving..... Highway I'm not sure whether improved or not....I'm not sure whether I'm happy with the throttle now as it seems like the car is losing power the moment you take the foot out of gas...before the car used to coast a bit longer I believe...
I think there's no question that in D mode, the car feels a little slower because you really have to push the accelerator in a lot further to get the same power, and because it seems to me like the gearing is a little different. DS mode however is still the same, and I really do prefer how linear the D mode is now. Whereas in the pre-modded '07, 70 to 80% of the power is in the first 1/3rd of travel, in the post-modded '07 and the '08, 50% of the power is in the first 50% of travel, etc. - ie. it feels linear. Never being a huge fan of drive by wire personally, I feel that I'd rather have the latter. Course sometimes I really feel like I need the power, and I do switch to DS mode on those occasions. I don't think DS mode has changed much if at all post update.
So it's definitely not a clear cut case of 'go out and get the update', but for me, it's a good choice - especially with the added bonus of the better mileage.

I noticed the same thing, but I was hesitant to post because I had it done about the same time they switched out the winter blended fuels for the summer blended fuels in the Washington, DC area. I noticed an "unscientific" average of 2 mpg better on my daily commute. As with most people I got used to the sensitive throttle and was able to drive it smoothly, but every once in a while I would still take off a little abruptly. I found that after I had this TSB done, it made my car more engaging and enjoyable to drive. I wouldn't say the car is slower now in D mode, but it responds more like a car should respond. In DS mode however, the throttle is just as sensitive as ever.
