Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program

Hey All,

I just bought my G35 yesterday (don't even have car in possession yet, but signed all paperwork). Anyways, in the haste of my purchase I agreed to the Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program, which was $980 for 60 Months/75000. I think this might be too high and I was wondering if I could cancel this. My understanding is that you can generally cancel extended warranties, but I thought I'd get an opinion here before calling the financial manager tomorrow.
By the way, I got the 6MT with Premium, Nav, Spoiler for 34400. OTD was 36500 including the 980.
Thanks!

Sounds like a great deal, congrats!

I actually think that the price you got quoted is pretty good. Sounds a lot less than what I've been offered anyways.

So basically you paid 980 bucks for 1 more year. The standard bumper to bumper is 48/60000. That seems like alot for a 1 year extra on your warranty. I'd probably try to cancel it.

Honda Accord
I got a 7 year/100,000mile warrenty for $2000. It's not the best deal... but I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah that's the thing...I'm not sure what the extra 980 is getting me. I always thought you could cancel extended warranties (which I assume this essentially is).

If i'm not mistaken, the IEMP is not an extended warranty but rather a maintenance program as worded. This will cover all your basic maintenance items such as your 3.5k,7k,15k,30k,etc... services.

If you want an extended warranty, you're looking for the Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plan.

By reading the title, I assumed that we were talking about a "maintenance" program... basically getting you all scheduled service for that amount of time.
Are you sure you bought a "Warranty" and not a "Maintenance" program?

Yes, you're right it's the maintenance program. It's a bit confusing how it's worded. Anyway, do you think this is a cancelable program? Also,do you think 980 is a fair price for maintenance for 60 months?

Thanks

An oil Change is $40, tire rotation $40...figure up the work needed. 20 oil changes in 75000 at 3750 intervals =$800. 10 rotate and balance @ 7500 each =$400.

Sounds like a bargain if you get the work done on time every time.

The dealer here in Buffalo adds it to all purchases and they "assign" a value of $800 to the Elite Maintenance - the Elite Maintenance program Autoplace is quoting is 3 years/45K miles. I do my own routine maintenance, so I negotiated out the "value" of the Elite Maint charge (bought the 2008 G35xS right about dealer invoice)...Real world you could figure what the value is. I base my cost on DIY - and I realize not everyone is in to that...I figure that if you do a combo of Service Level 1 and 2 (oil changes at 7500 miles after the first one at 3750 mi and make tire rotations at 5000 miles (7500 is really too long), your cost would be 7 oil changes at $28 each with full syn & OEM filter = $196, 3 cabin filters x $20 = $60, two air filter changes (x 2 filter per change) = $36 and 9 rotations (at 5K miles) at $12 ea = $108 (GRAND TOTAL $400)...The Elite Maintenance does include a few more items but to me, the time to change the oil is less than the time to drive to dealer, wait or get a ride to work, etc, etc...Plus you get to know your car better and are using full syn oil vs dino...ALL while doing a much more "careful" job than most dealer's service depts...

^^^ There are advantages to doing it yourself. However, it's almost a given that anytime you do your own maintenance and something goes haywire with your car, the service department can easily blame "lack of proper maintenance" as the cause and will deny warranty claims outright.

Lesson? If you do decide to do things yourself, make sure it's well documented and that you have proof of everything.

By the way, klossfam, you must know of a deal somewhere. My regimen of Mobil 1 and/or AMSOIL with the proper filters cost me noticably more than $28 per change. Then again, in my previous car i went between 10k - 15k per change so it's not a biggie. Don't know yet what the Oil Test Results will show on the G when i finally change the oil.

jpr196, if you have a sport, you can discount the tire rotation as you can't rotate the tires on these properly.

I agree with this. I haven't been screwed over yet by warranty issues, but the fact is that if something goes wrong, the dealer will do everything it can to not have to service that issue because they make very little, if any, money. Sure, the dealer will have to prove beyond any doubt that what you did caused the problem, but you have to go through with the headaches of having to argue with them. At least if you have the dealer do the maintenance, or even let a 3rd party do it but keep the documentation and receipts, then if an issue comes up and the dealer refused to do warranty, then all you have to do is show the documentation that maintenance was performed, and if they disagree with it, they'll have to argue with the 3rd party and not you.

Having said that, if that extended maintenance program means that the dealer will perform the routine maintenance, then $980 is a pretty good deal. My Infiniti dealership charges $50 per oil change. 75000/3750 = 20 oil changes. 20 * $50 = $1000. You already come out on top. And if they also include transmission fluid change, air filter change, regrease bearings and bushings, wiper blades, and other maintenance tasks the manual calls for, then that makes it an even better deal.

Hey Jpr,

If you got the Infiniti Elite Maintenance Program for $980, thats a good deal. I got mines for about less than $2,000. I will covers all your services for your car at any Infiniti dealerships. They will also give you a loaner car for your major services.

Soundmike - The point on having all the receipts/paperwork is a good one of course...Although, most Infiniti dealers will be glad to do any repair work during the warranty period and wack Infiniti/Nissan corporate for the full value of the service...that is ultimately how most dealers stay in business...I've never had any trouble with being a DIYer - at Acura, Honda, Infiniti or other dealers. Most comment on how well maintained the vehicle is, if they comment at all...My oil change of $28 is based on: 5 qts of Pennzoil Syn 5W30 at $20 (Wal*Mart or any place on sale and $8 for a OEM Nissan Oil filter and crush washer - you can get even better deals)...Kendall GT-1 Full Syn 5W30 in Western NY is available for $3/quart ($15 total) and some local dealers will sell the filter and washer for $6 - so $21 in that case...Also, I've found the Nismo filters are pretty crappy...so a Pure One Purolator is even better for $4-$5...and a lot of times, Advance Auto and Pep Boys have promos for Mobil 1 with a free Mobil 1 filter (an excellent filter by the way - not just "adding perceived value" on the Mobil 1 name) for about $25...This would be a useless point if the G wasn't so easy to work on...Only a 2004 Honda Pilot EX-L I had was easier...
