Coolant Bypass?

Why would you NOT have coolant running? Has anyone done this, what is it supposed to do?

Those things can mess up idling too. Did it on a car last summer and the b*tch was idling at 1500-2k rpms until I reversed the bypass...

did this on my setnra specv for some added cooling(along with a thermal gasket and CAI)
It seemed to help keep the intake air charge/manifold/runners cool.
but i did go through 3 Throttle bodies(TPS went out on them.)
