Funny you mention that. The G is the only car I've owned that has done that to me. Luckily, it did not seem to hurt the clutch -for now anyway. Anybody else revved her up (4K+) and let the clutch out only to find out the clutch slipped, not the tires? I won't be doing that again.

Different transmissions are designed differently. I don't claim to know this tranny inside and out but please don't tell me you think they are all engineered exactly the same way for every car.

Of course not all tranny's are designed the same, and it sounds like our G cars are alittle weak. However, if i had bought one, and wanted to do a little high milage driving, I would have sure skipped gears on occasion, whether its 1,3, to 5th. Or 2,4,6th. To bad i can't skip with my auto....

Driving in 4th gear, clutch in and move directly to 6th gear and clutch out.

You are better to clutch in and move into 5th and straight to 6th and clutch out so as to line up the synchos properly.

Ummm... there's some truth here mixed with some misinformation. I've owned a Corvette and a GTO, both equipped with GM's "Computer Assisted Gear Selection" or CAGS. It is indeed intended to help boost fuel economy along with some poorly selected gear ratios for V8 sports cars.

But there are two things that make CAGS utterly useless.

1.) Most owners defeat this stupid "feature" with a simple $15 aftermarket plug containing nothing more than a resistor immediately after taking delivery of the car.

2.) CAGS is only designed to engage a solenoid to block 2nd gear on a 1-2 shift under light throttle conditions. With 2nd mechanically blocked, the gear selector moves back and then over to 4th thereby keeping engine speed down and saving gas.

But as I said the "feature" is only designed to engage at light throttle. The simplest way to defeat the stupid thing is a heavy right foot. In a mildly hard launch CAGS never kicks in. For really cheap owners, this is the way to defeat CAGS and save $15 bucks on the plug. It is also produces the total opposite effect that the system was designed for. It guarantees hard starts every time. Hilarious thinking from GM and the government wonks.

PS - This sounds like a weak design for Infiniti if that's the word they're putting out. I've been snapping off high RPM 5-3 and 4-2 downshifts in boatload of sportscars for 20 years and have never had a single synchro failure or even noise indicating wear. On upshifts at light or moderate throttle there should be no problem at all with skipping 3-5 or 4-6 if you're feeling lazy while cruising up to speed.
