7 speed Auto Gear Ratios

I was looking at the FX 7 speed gear ratios (that I assume will be the same as the new G sedan) and it looks like there is a major drop in ratio between 3rd and 4th. I am not sure on the G37 Sedan tire size, but when I use the G37 Coupe 19" tire size, it looks like 1st goes to 32, 2nd to 50, 3rd to 72, and then 4th drops to 114. That seems like too large a spacing and will definitely hurt performance after 70 mph. With 7 gears, you'd think that they could have thrown in one more shorter gear to help performance, no? Especially since the torque multiplication in the first 3 gears should help get the car out quickly and feel strong.

Just a thought....

The FX35 7AT will do 80mph @ 2610rpm in the top gear. I wonder what the G will be given the difference tire diameter.

gearing is at follows:

The near gearing is more agressive; the new 5th gear is equal to the old 4th gear. 7th, is of course, taller than 6th.

60 mph will require a shift into 3rd gear.

80 mph looks like it's just under 3k rpm (once againusing the g37 coupe tire size). I don't get 4th gear - with 7 speeds they could have shortened it up significantly. 6th and 7th now are practically the same. Seems like a bit of marketing a "7 speed" was the cause.

Comparison

If anyone is interested...When the G37 first came out, there were comparisons to the 335 in terms of performance. At that time, I had put a little spreadsheet together using the dynos available at that time to compare torque and ultimately Force to the ground. I plugged in the G37 with the 7-speed auto's gear ratios to see how the shorter gearing would help. Seems like it really helps at the lower MPH. So much as to make it comparable to the 335 early on. Take a look if you care - I've attached a pdf with the G37 6-speed, G37 7-speed and 335 6-speed.
