Small Chip on Front Grille...Please Help!

Hi,

As some of you may or may not know, I recently purchased my new G end of last month. I use it primarily as a weekend car and have only put 200 miles overall on it. Today, I noticed there was a small chip on the front chrome grille (bottom most part of the grille). I don't think it could have come from my driving as there are no other chips around that area or on the front of the car for that matter. I am thinking of taking it to the dealer to claim it was there when I purchased it. Do you guys have any ideas what I can do as well as if this is covered under the warranty? Please help as I am going to go to the dealer this Friday but would like to be prepared beforehand. Thanks!

warranty doesnt cover chips. If you didnt notice it when you took delivery, chances are they wont cover it. You have had it and used it, they have no way of telling how it happened. I say it is your responsibility

The 07s were noted for pitting and chipping. A lot of us had them replaced because of that. Maybe the 08s have the same problem.

Asked them how come the paint around the grill is not chipped. If they don't want to replace it under warranty. I know that's what I did. He came out looked at my grill and told me I am right. They replaced it no issue.

I called the dealer today and spoke to a service rep. He said to bring the car in and they'll have a look to see if the warranty covers it or not. Crossing fingers...

Normally when you drive a car on the road other cars tires lift up rocks and project them at the front of your car....this is normal chipping and it will happen on every car. No need to be alarmed.

I guess then you never seen some of these grills. That is deffinitely not normal. I had no chips around the grill and like 80 on the grill in a month 300-400 miles maybe. Then after they replaced it 20 months and 35k on it maybe 3-4 spots. Plating actually should hold up better then the paint. Especially when we talking about Infiniti paint.

thats the one thing that infiniti really sucks donkey at. the quality/durability of the paint. my 07 looks worse then any of my previous cars at 10 years old.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I went to the dealership today and spoke to the Service Manager. He took a look at it and said warranty does not cover the chip on the grill, however, they would replace it one time as a "good will" measure. I asked him if I had to replace it now since there was only one chip or can I wait longer to see if it gets worse. He said they will replace it one time at any point under the warranty. This is all well said and done, however, I realized I did not get this in writing. Am I screwed...should I email them to send me what he said in an email? Also, for those who got their grills replaced, did you get it replaced more than one time for free under warranty?

Cover the new grill with 3M Clearbra. The chips will return with a vengence if you don't.
