Black Sucks!

We had a gorgeous fall weekend here in southern CT. I decided to wash and wax the G35 and S2000 today.

It was sunny, 65 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, no wind, low humidity. Pretty much a perfect day.

The G35 got it's first coat of wax. Man is black a pain in the butt. It does look fantastic when it's done though. I think a metallic black would be easier to keep up. The metalflake would give just enough random pattern to hide swirl marks and small scratches. We were juggling black and platinum graphite at purchase time. The graphite was sounding pretty good after detailing a black car.

The S2000 is much more forgiving with a metallic silver paint. Only problem there is that you can't tell where the hell you've waxed and buffed.

My 07 was black. I still think the black sedan is the sexiest. Whenever is clean and detailed. Nothing get close to it. But I know what you mean. I detailed mine and left it in the garage. Next day I opened my garage and see the tiniest dusts on it. ARGH. I still miss my black G. My 08 is blue and it is easier to keep it clean.

I just hate bugs. Every time I leave the town I got quadra billlion suicido bugs all over my car.

Good luck with the lots of details. Make sure you are carefull what you are using to dry the car. Infiniti's paint seems to be scratching to ease.

My brothers black car looks horrible with all the swirls... And EVERYONE has a white car now a days, so i chose silver b/c metallics hold up better to the elements and hides dirt...

OB can be a PIA....!

Dark colors can be a PIA to live with, you just need to find out how to deal
with them. Keeping them in a garage is number one on my list, rain and
yard sprinklers will kill the paint with water spots. Try doing a SEARCH under
DETAILING for recommendations on care, the list is probably long and deep.
My cure for dark colors is a garage and Zymol Concourse wax....and a car
cover if it's left outside during the day.

Yeah - I love the platinum graphite. Best way to describe it is that it never looks dirty but it looks great clean!

If I had the time and patience though, I would get OB any day. I just know how bad I am with detailing so it's not in the cards for me

Keep on it! Those few hours when it looks stellar make it all worth while!

I love the color when it's clean. Nothing looks better IMO, but it only stays clean for about 30 seconds.

black and other dark colors will always have the deepest "shine" but lighter colors will be easier to maintain because you can't see the swirls and scratches as much after a coat of wax

Me too. I've owned a black car, and it looked great when it was detailed; PG not only stays looking good though, IMO it looks more sophisticated.

And that's why they paint cars different colors

A good rule of thumb when washing and drying your car to minimize swirls is to always follow the airflow over the car. That keeps the lines straight for the spiderwebs that are created making them less visible. If you go in circles, then the scratches will always pick up the light and be visible from every direction.

Wash it outside & dry it in the garage (under serious lighting) and you're good to go!
Black is the bomb, if I get another G it'll be black, although Slate Blue is a close second

My 350Z was black and NEVER AGAIN will I have a black car. I'm OCD enough about dusting it and using Zaino every week but black was absurd. Never again.
