Mine just went out afer two years. Normal? Do you just pull the fob apart to replace it?

Mine lasted just under that. I haven't replaced the battery yet...just got my other fob. Need to get new batteries though or next thing I know I won't have either of them.

The battery life depends on how often the buttons are pushed. I'm still on my stock set since I got my car at the end of 2006.Originally Posted by douglas555

The easiest way to separate the halves is to use a dull knife (like a letter opener). Hold the ikey on on edge in your hand, put the letter opener onto the crack along the long side as if you were going to "slice" it in half. Wiggle the knife gently side to side to working it into the crack to pry it open.
For those interested, I have a bunch of used ikey batteries (voltage checked using a DVM) that I want to get rid of so I'll be sending them out at no charge with ikey cover purchases starting tomorrow. I'll make an announcement on my signature.

i bought my G in 11/2006. I had my keys replaced whenever that whole cell phone thing happened.
I haven't yet replaced the batteries and haven't seen any evidence of them needing to be replaced yet. I'm imagining I will need to replace them sometime soon though.

That docking station is just in case your battery dies...doesn't recharge.
What is strange is I never use the buttons on my fob, I always use the buttons on the car. Keys are always in my pocket or laptop bag. I was thinking 18 months isn't bad to get from a battery, but Terry you still haven't replaced yours? And OP got 2 years? Damn...

I NEVER use the buttons, and it's gone after two years. Maybe when I changed my fob for the recall they stuck in the same battery???

My warning light came on after 18 months, and I hardly ever use the fob buttons. I just lock/unlock with the button on the driver's door.
The battery is easy to install and cost approx $5-

I got to keep the old fobs (after a bit of begging and pleading)
I'll pop one open and see if they have batteries installed.
