Rattle from rearview mirror

I have an annoying rattle from the rearview mirror/roof area. Has anyone one else experienced this?

It could be your sunglasses holder. Haveyou tried holding it to see if that's the case?

Yes. It was awful the first week or two that I had my car, but it was more of a buzzing noise than a rattle. I put up with it until I took the car in for the free tank of gas the salesman had promised me, and then had them look at it. There is a small piece of plastic that covers the wires that run down to the mirror, and apparently this piece of plastic can vibrate against the glass, causing a buzzing noise. There's a TSB for the 2007 model (I've got a 2008). They put some foam inside this piece and put it back. It didn't totally fix the problem, but now the buzzing is a lot quieter and it only does it occasionally. Sometimes I kinda wish I had a plain old mirror like everyone else I know has that doesn't make any noise whatsoever, but I do like the autodimming and the HomeLink.

I have the same thing. I messed with the mirror or wire cover and it went away, but is back when I let go. I'll have to do some more investigating some day.

That is exactly where I have traced the noise. I zip tied the plastic wrap and and will drive it around a few days to see if this helps. I have rules out the sunglasses theory as I dont keep anything in the overhead console for that same reason.

Update

I removed the entire rearview mirror assembly and drove around on several diffrent surfaces. It appears the rattle (sounds like a plastic bag being folded)
is coming from the headliner or sunroof area. Anyone know if there is a TSB for this issue?

Exactly, same with me... I had that noice for a good month till I started putting my hand everywhere... I hit that plastic piece pretty hard and the vibration stopped.

I couldn't find a TSB, but it sounds exactly like what's discussed here.
