Just received my OEM rubber floor mats...cheap, cheap, cheap

I just recently returned my '05 G35 and leased an '08. I like the new car a lot, but I keep finding things that they made a lot cheaper than before. For example, the carpet floor mats in my '05 were much nicer than the ones in my new one. And now I just received my all-season rubber floor mats and found, again, that they are much cheaper feeling than my previous ones. They weight half as much as the '05's and are pretty stiff. I understand car companies have to cut some corners, but it just makes me wonder what else they cheapened. And when I say 'cheap', I generally mean lower grade materials and obvious manufacturing shortcuts. I know these are just floor mats and 'who really cares' .......but I guess I do.

Sorry for my negativity.

That was one of my only complaints when switching from my 05 to the 07. It was the quality of the carpeted mats, they seemed half the weight of the 05 mats.
Other than that the 07/08 is a winner. You will enjoy it

i havent seen the 05 rubber mats, and have the 07/08 rubber mats and they have been really good and are plenty heavy(though i dont have the 05 to compare to) over 20months with them the driver side mat heel area has deterioted(like all my past manual cars) but all others are as good as new with decent ise of course.

I wonder if the 05 mats are really thats much better and if so would the be an exact fit to the 07/08, if so i might try those instead of replacing the driver one with the new 07 ones, Thanks!

The 05 Carpeted mats were much better. But there is not a lot of difference in the winter rubber mats. The mats aren't the same. My 05 mat did not fit my 07.

Too much weight on the G's already. Need diet. Good way to go on diet is skinier mats.

My OEM rubber mats are now 1.5 yes old and still look brand new. No complaints there.
My original carpeted mats were only in the car for a month but they were already showing signs of wear.

I had my previous rubber mats for 3 years and they still look brand new...so much in fact that I'm selling them on ebay. I'm not so confident about these new ones though...and they were more expensive too.

Believe me, I tried to make the old mats fit the new car...but no cigar.

Can't have everything I guess.

+1. I for one appreciate every pound Infiniti has shed or kept off. It all adds up.

2008 G35 Journey Sedan no sunroof
I have the weathertech floor liners (not mats) and they're great. A little pricey at $160 for a full set, but they fit perfect and each mat is shaped like a bowl (dirt doesn't slide off into the carpet). They're easy to remove and hose off (or I use soap/water if they're really nasty). Light weight too.
