So I bought my 2008 G35 about 6-7 months ago and have roughly 8k miles (just turned actually) long story short, i leave my gf's bros house and hit the freeway last night, drove a couple miles then noticed sounds and the smell of rubber, I look right to see a car, thank god the tire didnt go that time or else who knew what would happen....i brake and the car sees my tire and accelerates and i finally make it to the emergency lane, as soon as i do the tire completely goes. I go outside to find this.....













the tire has completely gone off.........

Now I dont even want to drive my car and frankly dont think this stuff should be happening to cars with only 7-8k miles on them. What a nice christmas present from Infiniti and Goodyear.

 

Rest assured that this is not normal. Either the tire was defective, someone sabotage it, or it was abused. I'm thinking one of the first 2. Get replacement tires and move on.

 

you might have also been underinflated and caused unusual stress on the sidewall.. or the tire had been sitting in the warehouse for years

..That's got to be a defected tire. Check the manufactured date on the side of your other tires. Glad you're ok though..

I'm glad you're ok. Cars and tires can be replaced but you can't. Bring what's left of the tire back to the dealer and see if they can do anything for you. It has to have been either a defective tire or puncture or some other damage to the sidewall. Good luck!

 

This is not an issue with the car, but the manufacturer of the tire.

I agree. That has nothing to do with the car. There are numerous things that could have resulted in that happening...none of which are directly related to the saftey of the vehicle. More so related to the driver and/or tire manufaturer. Those appear to be Goodyear RS-A's, which are a garbage tire to begin with. They are high priced pieces of crap and shoudlnt even be on a vehicle of this caliber. Lucky nothing worse happened, but this isnt as uncommon as u think

 

Glad you are okay, like it was mentioned earlier check the manufacturing date of the tire, There was a 60 minute special or something about how sometimes you can buy "new" tires but they have actually been sitting there for years and because the plastic or rubber or whatever they were made out of dry out, would cause the tires to explode off the rim.

 

Do you live in cold climate with snow and ice?

 

No, I am in SoCal. But it was raining on that day and it has been pretty cold for the past week or so. I am thinking of contacting either the dealer or Inifinti regarding this issue. The tire doesnt look like it had any damage to it i.e slashed, etc and my tire pressure light was never on until after 5-10 minutes of driving which is when this happened. I went and examined where I had previously parked the car and saw no signs of anything that would damage the car and I checked the other cars that were parked there and the tires of the cars were good, so I dont think it was sabotage.

I agree that these tires are worthless.

I had two rear tires fail in exactly the same way.....at over 145 mph each time.....two separate occasions.....2005 GTO.....BF Goodrich KDWS OEM tires.

In my case it was clearly abuse. I ponied up for new tires. Both times the sidewall was molten rubber by the time I brought the car to a stop. The GTO was emminently controllable each time.

 

I wouldn't call this normal. Most likely it was a defective tire.

It could have been underinflated, as I'm seeing the TPMS sensors aren't working as they're supposed to, sometimes. I had the TPMS light go on in my 08 G35X Sport when one of my tires was low on air. Then the week after that, I was able drive almost 30 miles with my new snow tires/wheels/TPMS without the TPMS light going on..

However, I'm still leaning towards a defective tire..

the TPMS only comes on at speeds above 50mph or something i believe so it may very well have been at 20psi and you wouldn't have known
