Starting negotiations with my dealer, need help

So I have begun negotiations for my 2009 G37xs with my local dealership. I emailed my sales rep the specs on the car I would like and I asked him to respond with the MSRP and what he would be able to do Price wise for the car. I asked him to spec out the car as a G37xs in blue slate with black interior, navigation, premium, spoiler, and splash guards (Sport package) He gave me a MSRP of $42,945 and a selling price of $41,925. If I were to go with my own financing which I probably will do, he can give me an additional $2,000 Incentive bringing the final price to $39,925. I know invoice is $39,228. Now my question is should I be trying to get the dealers selling price of $41,925 down to the invoice number of $39,228 and then add in the additional $2,000 for a goal selling price of $37,228??? Should I tell him I am interested in there financing and widdle the selling price down and then tell him I will go with my own financing and get the extra $2,000 off the selling price??? Please advise.

Why in the world would the dealer incentivise you to use outside financing? Something doesn't sound right about that.

G35Rhino,

this is the email I got from my sales rep at the delership

Good afternoon Bob,

I'm glad that you decided to go with our Infiniti as your next
vehicle. I have the info you requested and asked for. I know you want to
get the wood trim but you can get it with the sport package, so these
numbers are without the wood trim on the car you will get the washi
paper finish instead.
Msrp: $42,945.00
Selling price: $41,925.00

This is on a 2009 Infiniti G37xs. Blue slate, black leather
interior, Premium, navigation, sport, splash guards, spoiler, cargo net.
The cars are available. As soon as we agreed upon all the details I
should let you know how long will get here from the port.

P.S
There is special financing available in this vehicle.

3.9% up to 60 months.
2.9% up to 48 months.
1.9% up to 36 months.

If you decided to go with your own financing and not chose any
of these rates I could save you an additional $2,000.00 of the selling
price, $39,925.00.

There are extra incentives if you do not take the special APR. I have got them down to a purchase price of $40,600 (before the $2000 incentive if I get my own financing) down from their first offer of $41,925. I will tell them to sharpen their pencils a little more...

Maybe in these economic times, they would rather get paid for the entire car instead of waiting every month for it.

Is this a US deal or no? The current promotion here is $1,000 dealer cash OR 3.9% / 4.9% financing depending on length of term. Either way you had to use Infiniti finance to get either as far as I know.

This is a US deal. If I do not go with IFS, I will get an extra $2000 off the selling price. It is my goal to get down to invoice + the $2000 for using my own financing.

I think the price he is quoting you sucks IMO. $2000 off sticker? No way. Tell him you can get a better price somewhere else. You need to play hardball with these guys. I think he would rather make a sale than lose it.

I was looking to lease and according to all the dealers I talk to there is no $1K back on a lease. So they are quoting me $36544 for a Journey Premium Nav splash guards car, which is $500 over invoice. If I purchase I think there were going to split the $1K with me, I know I was looking at around $39K OTD with tax (6% tag, title fees and in ATL the DOC fee in there was $599) and I belive on the purchase I had them doing illuminated kick plates and cargo mat.
The cars are starting to become available now so as dealers get inventory they are starting to negotiate on G37 Sedans now.
On the lease the money factor is like .00250 and for the 20K mile sI need for 36 months they are quoting me $675 month with (6% tax included).

What I will say is that Acura dealers are being real tough with th eSH-AWD TL. I can't get them anywhere near invoice on that car, there are literally only about 6-8 cars in all of ATL.

That's because Acura, like all of the other auto makers, is slashing production.

Just curious, have you driven the new TL? What were your impressions? I drove a SH-AWD TL back in November and thought it drove okay and had a really nice interior. On a downside, it's hard to get past the exterior styling, you felt the weight and size of the car during acceleration and cornering. It's a nice alternative to an ES350.
