7 speed auto downshift too early when coming to a stop?

After driving the 7 speed auto, I have noticed when approaching a full stop the transmission seems to downshift too early (revs too high) when going from 3-2 or 2-1 causing me to slightly jerk forward. Anyone else notice this issue? The 5 speed in my g35S is great and do not notice this issue.

Robs - I have to say that I've noticed the same thing in my 09 G37S RWD. I had an 07 G35S RWD that did not have the same issue. I'm almost 3K miles in on the 09, and it has seemed to lessen a little bit. I'm thinking maybe it's part of the break-in period.

I've also noticed that the 7AT doesn't seem to 'pick-up-and-go' when you hit the gas as fast as the 07 5AT did. Might just be me.

I've noticed the same thing with my '09 G37 RWD. I'm at about the 1k mark.

I asked my co-worker who has a '08 G35 RWD and he has the same issue. I also asked a co-worker who has a '07 IS 350 and his car also does that. So I assumed that this was normal for a sports sedan. I used to drive Volvos and didn't have this issue.

I noticed the same issued, on my 09 G37X AWD and I only have 600km; at first it bothered me, but just like Comiha22 said it might go away after it has passed the break-in period.

My G37xS does downshift as I come to a stop but I don't find it particularly obtrusive. Thought it was part of the sporting nature of the vehicle.

Let me know how high the RPMs spike when it happens and how fast you are coming to a stop. Also from what speed. We can then compare notes. I am assuming this is occurring only while in DS.

Occurred to me having just arrived home in my G37xS...the G37 tranny is downshifting through more numerous, closer and lower ratios. Certainly would have an effect on the downshifting feel vs a G35...

manual scores again! haha jk jk but I had a 08 G35 AWD and it did the same thing. It got annoying when going down hills. Aside from that it was kind of fun.

This should only be occurring in DS mode

after few miles of experimental driving i noticed that when i'm cruising about 30-40mph and either let go of the gas or trying to stop abruptly causes more frequent jerky movement (not all the time). other than that speed range i didnt feel much of that jerky movement.

You're probably noticing the transmission go from lock-up to normal mode . The 5AT also goes into lock-up around 40mph in 5th gear under low to zero throttle. If you've driven the 5at before, you may have noticed that if you drive around 40 mph coasting/deccel/accel that you may notice a small jerk/hessitation. My 06 does it and I've driven a loaner that does it too. I haven't read much about the 7AT, but I bet it the service manual has a table that shows when lock-up occurs under low or no throttle.

Downshift causing forward jerking motion

I spoke with the dealer today about this issue and they have had a few people complain about the car jerking forward, while downshifting when coming to a stop. I offered to come in and see if a mechanic would take a test drive, but they said to wait a few weeks while they look into it. As of now, there are no tech notes regarding the issue. It seems the tranny is downshifting too early from 3-2 and 2-1. The close ratio's are probaby the cause. I am not sold on the 7 speed. Tranny hunts too much for correct gear when performance driving. I think a 5 speed with OD would have been better. I love the 5 speed AT in my 07 G35 sport. Just needed 1 more gear / OD for highway driving.

Honda Accord
Reset your ECU and avoid driving in DS-manual mode. After your G gets used to your driving pattern, it should be back to normal.

This symptom is caused by the frequent use of DS-manual mode with rev-matching downshift. Try not to drive aggressive for about 500~1000 miles after resetting the ECU. It should be just fine.
