IPOD Interface question
I get that same message now every so often. I haven't had it in a while but the last time I got it bad I was getting that message all day after a long road trip with my 3g iphone connected. I really hate apple for this - they screwed over so many people by switching the goddam charging port.
Firewire is dead. It's not Apple's fault. Why continue to provide Firewire in the device when it's a dead technology?
If anything, complain about Infiniti using Firewaire instead on USB.
I do agree that is sucks though. I have bought a few very high end docks and speakers for my first gen iPod Touch and they're all useless now that I have the 3G iPhone.
Oh well...

While true, it's slightly faulty logic. I can't really blame Apple for switching, however saying Infiniti is at fault is a bit of a stretch. The 08+ iPod interface was designed before Apple even introduced the 3G iPhone, and the older charging interface worked with every iPod up to that point. What surprises me is that Apple hasn't produced it's own adapter to help out the millions of people that have bought peripherals for their devices.
well you can get this adapter that would make it work. Honestly Firewire is better at charging because it provided a higher voltage, i think. That's

That's pretty coo.. the only downside is that even without that plug, my iphone barely fits in the arm rest.. I don't think I can use that plug and put it in the arm rest..
Or is there a better place for the iphone?

The Sosche PassPort adapter works great. It will charge your 3G iPhone, and you will not have any issues. It works on older docks too!!! Basically anything it will fit on that gives the above message, or if it doesn't charge.
The adapter is smaller than you think, but it will not allow the iPhone to fit in the console (at least not in my 09 6MT). Here is a pic of where I put mine when I use the adapter. I really only use it when I need to charge my phone. It seems to help with some other things too, but that message still comes up.

There is a small valley in the console that allows room for the cable to pass through when the armrest/lid is closed. It's toward the driver's side at the leading edge of the console (you'll easily see it with the console lid open).
Not sure about the iPod power cords- if they are like the home charging cords then they are probably thin wire instead of other brands' pigtails. If that's the case I would guess that the indent would be fine.
Also, thanks for posting the pic with the adapter! First time I've seen it. Trying to decide if I want to get a new iPod or live with the one I have and not bother with the adapter. It's actually bigger than I thought so I'll have to consider it.
Thanks!
Jay
