Springs/Shocks and Warranty inquiry

Alright, please try to answer BOTH questions. I know many times when someone asks more than one question, only one gets answered!

1) If I were to get springs to lower my car, am I supposed to complement them with a set of new shocks as well? Or will my OEM shocks suffice?

2) If I change my springs, will this void my warranty? I've heard it will only void your warranty if they can prove that particular part -- whether it be springs, intakes, or any other aftermarket part -- was the cause of the malfunction.

Thnx in advance for any help!

1) Aftermarket shocks would be recommended depending on the spring rate of your aftermarket springs. Ironically, we have no aftermarket shocks available yet. Just coilovers.

2) Lowering your car will not void your warranty at all. Only when they can prove that the damage or the malfunction was caused by your aftermarket mod.

1) OEM strut/shock will wear out faster with aftermarkte springs but not immediately. Still unproven how much faster but most will agree that they will not last as long as with stock springs.

2) My opinion...The letter of the law says that aftermarket parts cannot void your warranty by simply being there. They must contribute to the failure. That being said, all the dealership has to do is say "sorry, no warranty coverage because you dropped your car" then you have to prove to them (or the courts) why it didn't cause the failure. So the law says burden of proof is on the dealership but the reality is that the burden is usually on the owner. No matter what you do, the owner would end up having to do legwork to justify the modification when the dealership says "No" because we have no leverage to force the dealership to follow the law except complaining or going to court. Either way, lots of effort.
