Question on eibach pro kit

Hey,

My car is in the shop right now and i just got a call saying that there having a problem compressing the springs so there going to have to take them to a shop down the street to compress them or whatnot. They also said the springs are about the same size as the stock ones and i told them that they do take about 2 weeks to fully settle.

Let me know what you guys think about this or if these people even know what there doing and talking about because im getting a little worried lol. It is a reputable shop though so i don't know.

Let me know thanks!
ill be sure to post pics when i pick it up later today!

Yea...dont worry....The springs are progressive (some coils are spaced more closely together towards one end) making them a bit harder to compress....there are various threads about that issue in the Tech portion of this forum.

^ +1 The springs are really close at one end so it's a pita to compress them.

Normally, spring compressors are applied to coils of the spring, top and bottom. With these progressive springs, the ends have no room. You have to attach one end to the spring perch on your strut and make sure that each spring compressor is almost 180 degrees from each other so the piston rod ends up in the middle as you compress it.

It sounds like they don't work with drop springs often. The overall length of the spring is just to keep it from unseating at full extension (eg: car is on jacks). The spring rate and progression are what determine the ride height and the comfort of the ride. Most aftermarket springs should be around the same length as the OEM.

As long as they are not charging you by the hour, I would say they will figure it out as long as they are conscientious about their work. The only thing that gave me problems was the single nut holding the top cap on but everything else should give a mechanic no problem.

Yea, they are quite the challenge to get on if you are DIY.

There was a very good write up done by a fellow G35driver on here somewhere. Anyones guess as to why it's not stickied...
