Well I have a polisher and compounds, but what can I do with this new self healing paint I noticed two scratches on the rear passenger door and I can feel them as well should I just put a heat gun on it on low moving it around to see if it heals itself? and also noticed a bunch of rock chips on the rear doors on the tip man I didn't know this thing were that weak paint wise I mean.

Door dings are my biggest pet peeve. Some people just throw open their door until it either opens all the way or opens as much as possible because it has contacted the next (my) car. Sons of b#!ches.

I am **** about them and my car lives in parking lots. I find myself memorizing what cars park next to me when I leave, I feel relieved when I come back and the same cars are next to me, it means I have escaped a potential door ding.

I guess that new self-healing paint stuff on the new 09's don't do much help.

It only helps with light scratches. Anything deep won't be fix by itself.

I once went to dinner with the wife, parked way way out in an empty lot, and when I came out "Mater" was parked right next to me. I'm like "really"? Should have thought to snap a pic. I quickly scanned for dings. People **** me off. I use Scratch-X for scuffs where my kids get out of the back.

Our paint job is weak... I am noticing a lot of black marks (will try to post a pic later), as if the paint somehow chipped off with the clearcoat and paint both gone. Not the white of a superficial scratch or a deep scratch, just chips. It seems to be a result of high impact small projectiles (small pebbles and like). Chances are it's something that can be fixed with wetsanding & touchup but there seem to be too many of them to keep up.

It is good to read that there are some other ppl as concerned about where they park as I am. My wife gets annoyed sometimes when I park far out to avoid other cars and door dings. At work I always park at far end of lot. I have no door dings. I do have a huge ding on my hood of all places: On xmas eve, it was super windy. I even noticed trees swaying in the wind. As I was driving out of our sub, a huge piece of tree crash landed on my hood and wind shield. It scared the heck out of me. I checked wind shield and it was not cracked or chipped. Later I noticed a ding in the hood, right above where hinge reinforcements are making dent repair from back side questionable.

So in the end, I have to laugh at myself. Yes I have no door dings but I have a nice dent in my hood that I can see every time I look out the windshield. Some things there is just nothing you can do about.
