Unhappy accident

i was stopped at a red light, and the lady behind me said her "foot slipped off the break". damage is minor but bumper needs fixing.

can anyone recommend a great auto body shop in northern virginia (reston, chantilly)?

You can use "Rubbing compound" to rub those scratches off. If it doesn't work out then bring it to a shop. Don't need to exaggerate the damage in this case.
Rubbing compounds can be purchased in any auto part store. The brand that I used is Turtle Wax or something.

Rubbing compound won't fix the indents and gashes in his paint.

correct. there's a crease/indent in the bumper that may not be visible in that picture.

no, i'm definitely not, but i am insistent that it be fixed to like new condition. should be easily done, but i've had bad experiences with body shops in the past.

LP and other similar metallic colors can be tough to match perfectly from all angles and in all lighting conditions. That would be my biggest concern. They're probably not going to repaint the whole bumper, which means its going to be blended in somewhere. And if they do respray the whole bumper, you have to be concerned about it matching the rear quarters. How many silver/tan/light gray metallic cars have you seen running around with mismatched paint (even if only slightly)?

I know you want to get it fixed, so make sure you find a shop that comes highly recommended by several reliable people. Otherwise put the insurance check in the bank, get some rubbing compound, work out what you can and try to live with what's left.

Inquire in the National G Club Sub Forum, they will definitely know the best shop to go to. There is one in Rockville that does really good work, but someone in NGC should know a place in Chantilly.

I got an estimate for some work done at Chantilly Auto Body on Stonecroft Blvd. Took @ 10 minutes for the estimate to be done, gave me an itemized computer printout of everything. Never had the work done but if I did I would probably go back there.

thanks for the responses so far. unfortunately, chantilly auto body is on my bad list, and even though it's been years, i won't go there. i will check out the proper sub forums - thanks.

the same exact thing happened to my car too. theres no paint damage but VERY slight indentation. you can't see it without really trying to look for it.
Does insurance cover such things??

Yes, I had similar damages on my G from a lil bumper to bumper accident. It left indentation near the rear license plate area on the bumper. I think the total cost of the damage was about 500-600 but I had the other party's insurance take care of the full cost of the repair.

IMO claim it through insurance unless your deductible is over 500 bucks.

GL.

insurance is different here. they responsible of taking care of everything, you don't pay a penny.
last time i messed up my front bumper/light assembly. it was about $1000 new parts, painted and installed and they fully paid for it.

the accident was her fault - hitting a stopped car at a red light - so the claim is on her policy. i can have it repaired at the place of my choice, and i'll get a rental car for the time it's being fixed.
