scratched Washi aluminum

Does anyone know if it's possible to repair a scratch in the Washi trim? I scratched it on my passenger door while moving some furniture... It's small but really bothers me!

Is it possible to repair it short of replacing it? If I replace that piece of the trim, about how much would that be?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, I thought of that, but the shift **** is just brushed aluminum, not washi. Will that still look okay do you think?

How about using steel wool to fix it. You would run the steel wool along the grain of the washi trim. OR use swirl or scratch remover for car paints. GL

The scratch is through the finish on the washi, so I pretty much need something that will duplicate the finish, otherwise I'll have to do something to the whole piece and (in all likelihood) have it not match the rest of the washi pieces...

EDIT: since the washi finish is not shiny, I'm concerned about putting a clear coat on it -- what about something like this: http://www.testors.com/product/13606..._oz._Spray_Can

Well, any light abrasive doesn't work - it either makes the surface too shiny or makes the scratch bigger (removes more surface area of the finish). I don't think there's any way of repairing this short of replacing it. Is it possible to replace just that piece or does it have to be the whole door?

If it's not possible to repair the finish, it should be possible to obtain that finishing piece of trim (there is a thead re. removal of washi trim). I would inquire at the dealership re. obtaining the said piece.

I just noticed my trim peeling off today and couldn't find any replacements on ebay that would sell just that peice... I called the dealer and they had to order it for $67, and I will be picking it up on thursday. He didn't know whether you have to pull the whole door panel off or just snap it off and snap the newer peice on.
Will work on it this weekend and keep you guys posted. Ironically I was going to take the panel off to add some insulation as the speakers cause a small rattle when song bass is high.

When I had the piece replaced they had to take the whole door apart. Not fun. Definitely wrap whatever tool you use with something because it is very easy to scratch the leather or the plastic on the door.

I did this process on my last right (gs350) and it was pretty simple. I imagine this shouldn't be that much harder. We'll see hopefully "success'' will be the result of this process.

lol uh no, they're not priced too high... i took the panel off and replaced the trim with ease. Just so that future readers know, Nothing is taken off by force with newer model cars these days. There is a way you just have to have the time and patience to figure it out. The only part that needed some pressure was to pull the panel to release it from the clips that help attach it. After thhat there is literally three bolts that you'll need to loosen up, pop open the top part of the arm handle, and your money. Make sure to disconnect the window wires, light wire, and upper tweeter (speaker).
Everything worked out great in about 45 minutes of time.

Unfortunately, if I'm not mistaking you will have to replace the shift ****... You can find one for just under $100 online. If you get a new one make sure put some sort of clear coat or something. It scratches up easily.
