So 2.5 years into ownership and with only 6 months left with car payments...it finally happened. My G was in an accident. The worst part is that I didn't do it and there's nothing I could've done about it.

Parked near the bus stop (in Queens, NY) and took the bus to work (in Manhattan) like I always do. I come back to my car last night after work and someone had smashed into the front driver's side of my car. I asked the people working at the Mobil and Burger King (my car was parked in front of them) and apparently nobody saw a thing, which I obviously don't believe.

Whoever did it, didn't leave insurance information, a note, or anything...pretty messed up. So I called GEICO and filed a no-fault claim.

Pics of the damage to my G!

Since I've never been in any accident before, I'm not quite so sure how this all works. Do people generally only use body shops for these types of repair or do they take it into their dealership to get it fixed? I only have a $500 deductible, so I really don't care how much it costs. My policy lets me take it to the body shop of my choice.

The rep I spoke to on the phone also mentioned GEICO's Auto Body Xpress program, where they take the car in, repair it, give me a rental, and guarantee the work of the repair for as long as I own my car.

Has anyone used this program? Is it better to go through the program since the work is guaranteed as long as I own my car or should I try to find a different body shop or just take it into the dealership.

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

I used that program when my friend backed my BMW in to a pole. Its a good program, they do take care of you and if anything happens to the work that was performed and you aren't satisfied they will redo or correct it.

Man thats to bad!! I have had my G about as long as you have,, to me almost looks like a bigger vehicle turned to close to it, truck, or bus, and caught the corner, and pulled it, like when turning or something.... sounds like you got real good insur. but ya, shouldn't have to use it for something ya didn't even do.....

Sorry about what happened to your X... effin' hazards of NYC street parking. It's an adventure every time - every time I approach my car I expect a ticket, a new door scratch/bumper ding or (at the very least) pigeons sh*tting all over my ride. I also was sideswiped (just surface paint damage though, nothing like the above) 6 months or so ago when I parked on a street corner in Manhattan. Same deal - no note was left but someone wrote down the plate number (ultimately, driver was tracked down but denied everything). I used a Suffolk-based body shop affiliated with GEICO Xpress program later to repair paint damage in a garage and they fixed that side scratch as well returning the X to factory look and provided a rental. Cost me a $500 deductible and GEICO is in the process of recovering that from the garage as well.
