First post....stupid question

Hi all, sorry for the question, but here it goes:

What, if any, damage would occur if the parking brake is used to stop the vehicle at speeds of 30mph or slower, instead of the regular brake pedal? Yeah, I know, as embarrassing as it sounds, it happened.

Thanks.

lol welcome to the forums and asking a "stupid" question (though there is no such thing) is not the best way to make your first post

Don't know the answer to your question but there exists a thing called google (as the answer would not be unique to G35s, but the same with all cars).

umm depends on how hard you hit it. the foot e-brakes aren't exactly built like the hand e-brakes.

did you skid?

Hehe...thanks, I know it's not a good way to start, but ya gotta start somehow. Believe it or not, I did google it but not much turned up to the question specific.

Didn't hit it hard at all. No skid. Just decreased in speed, and eventually came to a stop. I know I need back brakes real soon (3/32)

I don't think it did anything. Brakes feel ok otherwise. P-brake still works ok too. No marks on the rotors/disks. No rubbing, noises, leaks. Probably worryin' for nothing.

ur ebrake is separate from the main disc in the back.

its only really made to hold the car still, not take the heat of high speed stop.

it will just wear out quickly if you use it a lot, thats all.

Yeah, wasn't sure how it was set up. Nothing seemed damaged. This will remain a one time occurrence. Hopefully didn't wear too much.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum bud.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid crack ****** that rear end you at red lights.

Anyway... if it hapened once, I wouldn't worry about it. With that being said, I wouldn't go and make a habit out if it either.
Don't worry about silly questions. The guys around here are pretty cool. The only time you'll get flamed here is if you ask a question that has been answered 4 trillion times before and can be easily found in a quick search.
Otherwise, let the questions fly.

Lol...yeah I did my fair share of searchin before my post. I'm glad to know I'm not alone when it comes to some of the quirks with the G. I thought I was just nuts (well...maybe a litttle).

Couldn't ask for a better vehicle though, killer ride. Makes the imperfections more than tolerable. Hard enough keeping your foot out of the gas pedal, nevermind the brakes .

Look forward to sharing info/experiences with all.

Sorry to hear about the red light *****.

If i remember correctly, the e-brake is just a separate drum setup. And since drum brakes do a fine job of stopping a car without falling apart, I would assume you're fine.
