2008 G35X sedan- complete failure of Sport/Manu-matic shifting!

I have a 2008 G35X sedan. 2 weeks ago, I noticed that while i was driving in "manual" mode (as in, shift to Sport mode than manually shift), the car automatically reverted to normal "Driving" mode, and wouldn't let me shift anymore, let alone even go back into sport mode.

I move the shifter to the Sport mode slot, and the light on the shifter column lights up, saying I'm IN sport mode, but on the dashboard LCD screen, it remains in normal "D" mode. When I try to shift, nothing happens as well.

This problem has persisted, and now I can not ever shift into "DS" or manual-shifting mode, even if I turn the car off and on (presumably re-starting the computer).

I should note that while in normal Driving mode, there have been absolutely NO problems when the car shifts- everything is smooth as always. In addition, I have yet to receive any sort of self-diagnositc warning in my LCD dashboard screen area.

Is this merely some sort of huge computer error? if so, why is it not re-setting itself after the car is turned off? I'm taking it to the dealer at 36K miles for my tune up, but I'm curious if anyone here has experienced this.

Thanks!

Haven't seen this before, you should have the dealer look at it asap. Would suck to get stranded.

It isnt something you can fix. Your car is a 08 with warranty, USE IT!

Happened to me and several others. Other people got there shifter unit (i think) replaced under warranty. As for me, the problem occurred for a few days and now it's gone. Been a couple months maybe more since it happened. As soon as it happens again I'm taking it straight to the dealer.

cool to know- so, any word on what caused the problem? if the shifter unit was replaced, and since the problem comes and goes... I'm thinking there's a weak wire connection in the shifter unit perhaps? If so, you'd THINK the car would know it and send a warning message. *grumble*. my g35 has been PERFECT up until this...come on Nissan *prays*

I use sport shift on a daily basis, 10K miles with no problems yet.
