GPS has limited coverage

I live in Canada and purchased a US model with a GPS. The GPS has very limited coverage outside big cities. Can I replace the maps in the unit with an updated map set that would have more canadian content?
How can I see the version of my maps.
Thanks

Guy

You didn't say what unit or which update you were running. Most maps can be updated.

If you have any infiniti you can buy an update from the following site to get more coverage, as long as of course you dont already have the latest version

Navteq Updates

It is the GPS that comes with the car, the OEM.

I just looked at the Navteq site and I am really not sure that I will be getting better maps that what I already have in my car. What I am buing from Navteq is a code that I need to gring to the dealer that will then load, at additional cost, updated maps in my GPS. The price of the update is 190$ plus probably another 100-150$ for the actual update. Definatly not worth it. I was thinking of getting a DVD that I would load into the DVD player of the car and that would allow me to update the maps myself. 250-300$ is way to much expensive.

Anyo

My dealer did the update for nothing (I still had to buy the code, though).

Get a Garmin or Tom Tom or something... stock nav sucks unless you live in the big cities, and even still, it sucks...

I'm in Atlanta and I'm not sure if that qualifies as a big city (crack on Atlanta, not really a question), but my stock '07 NAV works pretty good. The only issue it has is when I'm in parking decks or shopping complexes. It sometimes tries to snap me to the closest road. However, the update should take care of that.

And yes, I checked. I went into a dealer and sat in a new G and played with its NAV to confirm. I'm just waiting till the next update and then I'll do it. I want to wait till some of the recession stuff is out of the way to hopefully get some better updates (points of interest, etc...).

I just bought a Garmin 255W from Amazon this summer. Worked great on our trip to CA. All of them have some outdated info in their database though. Updates from UBS computer connection online. I can take it with me in any car I have or use it on a walking tour. Check it out for Canada version before you invest any money for an Infiniti upgrade.

i don't know wat some of you are talking abt but the OEM Nav is awesome. It works great. And if you are having some major problems then just get an update for the map. Sometimes u jst maybe in an area where they didn't bother updating the map cause there was nothing to update lol :-P jst playing.
