iPhone 3gs Compatbility issue

Hey guys as many of you know the 2008 G35 model that comes with the iphone jack DOES NOT WORK with the new iphone 3gs (or 3g I believe?) It ONLY works with the oldschool iphone...

Does anyone know if this problem is fixable? I plug in my phone and it will play the song (and doesn't charge btw) from anywhere between 10secs - 2 minutes before it cuts off and starts playing off the iphone speakers.

Thanks a bunch for your time!

I have an iPhone 3Gs and a G37. Mine doesn't charge either but doesn't cut off before palying off the iPhone.

I'd be interested to see if there is a solution to this also.

I'm not too sure about the playback problem, sorry.
But for the charging problem, you could buy this product that acts as an adapter.
Here's the link to the apple store: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS696LL/A
I bought it, its kinda pricey but everything sold by apple is haha. I think there was a thread on this before too, try searching for it

Thanks for the product link!

And yeah the playback problem is really what I want to fix (charging isn't THAT big of deal...)

It's just really annoying having to constantly reconnect the iphone every 30 seconds to listen to a **** song.

Oh that's funny that this post should be here, I just tried this yesterday and it wasn't charging either, I just though my jack was fried!

got to love apple,

they change a 5 + year old charging standard to save a few pennys in manufacturing, then bend you over for $25 for the adapter.

Haha seriously, but the phone is amazing. Outphase, as for the playback issue, my 3G plays music fine without cutting off. I'm pretty sure there were no changes made to the dock when the 3GS came out so it should be the same. I think the wire may be a defect

Well, you gotta admit... firewire is dead. Why continue with it?
It does suck that a new adapter is necessary though.

My docking station/speaker on my desk at work is also useless now. The phone won't charge and it only plays music when the phone is in Airplane Mode.

Sucks but I understand why they made the change.

The changes were made when the 3G came out. For example, my wifes Gen1 iPhone charged fine on my Pioneer Avic D2, but my 3G nor 3GS would charge. Same thing with the G. But I bought the Scosche adapter from the Apple store and it charges just fine now.

Anyway, the cutting off is either a problem with the phone or the car. Best thing to do is connect another ipod to the car and see what happens!

I meant I have a 3G and it plays back fine so the 3GS should also. Outphase its most likely the wire that has a problem

In apple's defense (and trust me, I am starting to HATE Apple's draconian policies so I don't defend them much) the change is not Apple's fault, but the manufacturer's fault. USB has been the de-facto ipod standard for a while now, but many manufacturer's opted to continue to use the firewire 12v pins to deliver power.

I have one of the Scosche passport devices mentioned by another poster and it's okay. On my wife's eclipse AVN-5510 unit with the ipod adapter it's hit and miss. When the passport is connected it will charge the iphone, but regularly display "Error" on the avn5510 display.

I've seen other reports of inconsistencies with the passport online as well.

Then the problem has to be your car. Take it to the dealer with multiple ipods and show them!

Hmmm! Works fine in my G. But now that you mention it, I need to try in my Elantra on the Avic-D2!
