An odd sound when driving

I have an 08 G35xsport, never been in an accident, 30k miles.

I get the odd clicking sound from the base of the windshield when I drive. It almost sounds like the glass is popping. It's not that loud and tends to coincide with some bumps. Seems to be worse when cold (30-40 degrees).

Any thoughts?

BTW, it's not the 3000-4000 rpm clicking sound. I did a search and it seems this is common - but I couldn't find a concensus on the fix.

Thanks.

On a couple of occasions I had an extremely loud pop, loud enough you would swear someone fire a pistol in the car. Haven't heard this for about a year now but when I mentioned it to the dealer he had a couple of others who reported the same thing.

Yours could be something like the glass moving in the seal and may well go away with time. My Dad actually had an old car which lost its seal when he was driving due to hail and then it resealed after dousing the inside with water, really weird.

I had an early 70s Ford which broke three windshields for no reason, the dealer just replaced them. On the third one there was a fix, a thicker gasket that allowed the windshield to move a little bit since they were breaking due to body flex. I image this exist to a certain extent on all cars so there is a fine line between not enough and too much movement allowed.

Are you sure it is not related to your defroster? Maybe there is something in the duct.

I also have that noise. When it happens I squirt some WD40 at the base of the windshield (on the outside) and it goes away for a while. I think it is the plastic cowl rubbing against the bottom of the windshield.

i get a lighter sound like that, but it is coming from the insturment console... started after the dealer replaced it under warranty. i just push down on it along the outer edges and it stops.

Well I have a small rattle type noise coming from the windshield as well on my 09, but only when is cold I'm waiting for the weather to get cold so I can take it back to the dealer, I also think the rubber around the windshield is either loosed or too thin.
