Need opnions regarding a new key

I have a 2008 G35x and I don't have a spare key (bought the car used, the previous owner lost it). I called my dealership and they are charging me 65$ for programming and cutting of a new key. $125 for a new key. (190$ total) However, I found an uncut key on ebay for $33. The FCC ID is the same as the other keys on ebay for the 2008 G35 so I would assume its the right "model".

Has anyone have any experience with buying these keys on ebay? If someone knows for a fact it's a scam I don't want to lose 33$ + paying the dealer for programming that didn't work.

Thanks.

Do a search to find out which ikeys were affected by the recall and make sure the ebay one is not included.

Other than the advice posted above, they work fine so long as it looks like your original and carries the same FCC ID. I bought a secondary through Ebay and it works just fine!

If it's any concellation, that's not too outrageous. When i lost my key to 2000 Ford Contour, they wanted 150 bucks for a replacement...

But a Ford key can be programmed at home. There's no way around programming the I-Key at the dealership. I was quoted $149 from my dealer and $120 to program it.

Think that's expensive? Try buying one of those Ford Keys just so you can take the transponder out of it to make your auto start work. Lol! My F-150 SuperCrew had autostart but needed a spare chip to run in the wiring to fool the truck into thinking the key was installed. I HATED having to add the cost of that key in to the cost of that alarm.

Yes. For a 20k ford, I thought that was ridiculous.

The spare key isn't cheap to replace, and I learned the lesson the hard way. I bought my wife's minivan used from a toyota dealer. It was missing lots of stuff (a floor mat, the nav dvd, dvd player remote, key fobs, and the spare key). I got most stuff from ebay, but I had to get the spare key from another toyota dealer. Lock smiths can mess things up if they don't have experience working with the car's computer. Some dealers are cheaper than others, so call around. A nissan dealer can also work on infinitis.
When I bought my 08 G35 used from a nissan dealer, I looked for missing stuff before negotiating. It was missing the spare key, and I made sure another key was part of the deal!

Awesome thanks for the heads up guys.

I tried a different ebay link and there was an actual phone number to a customer representative. I told him to get the key out and asked him what does he see directly next to the box thing on the key. He said he saw rings so it's definitely a good key. I also checked my original key for the FCC ID and it matched the key he was holding. Key is going to come next week so I will let you guys know how it went for future reference in case anyone else needs a spare.

Again, thanks a lot.

Oh crap, I thought I bookmarked it but I didn't. However, I do still have the phone number on my contact list.

It is (888)308-5388
Give that a try
