+1 and you DO NOT have to go to the dealer to program the key. My cousins and friends, who lost their keys, have had a spare key, that they purchased online, programmed by lock smiths.

the one i got was $40. supposed to be in 'excellent condition' i actually bought a 2nd remote from the same ebayer for my brother's honda. i called them up on the phone, and they seemed like they knew what they were talking about and were fairly professional. he did say that they had a more used remote for like $29, or an 'almost new' one for $44. i figured i'd go half way.

the honda one was only $19, and can be programmed by whoever.

If i take my new/used remote for the g to a locksmith, what exactly should i ask him? will all locksmiths have that electronic programmer? and how much do locksmiths charge for the programming?

thanks

Let me rephrase that you can't simply program it at home. It has to be programmed for the car itself by someone with magical tools.

Just got one off e-bay for 35 shipped and 65 for dealer to program. Didn't bother having the key cut.

Some locksmiths can do it if they have the program.

Unless the software is hacked now, no locksmith can pair the ikeys to the car. They would need a $5K CONSULT III which is way too expensive for the number of times they would really use it. They can only cut the key blanks.

See post #4 above

yes, you are correct. Some lock smiths can do it and they will need specific tools/programs in order to do it like you said in your other posts.

It's probably a good idea to call around to lock smiths and see if they can do it and how much for your specific year make and model.

I just wanted to chime in here since when I bought my 07 G35x pre-owned I only received 1 keyfob. It seems there is a lot of variation in pricing between dealers. For me, the cost of the keyfob + blade was $35. The cost of programming was $60 for a total of $95 from my dealership.

For those who think this is steep, I had to do this for my Volvo S40... $240 for keyfob + blade + programming.

Where's your dealer? the dealer close to me said $120 to program and cut, and like $90 for the fob and blank key = $210 total for new fob and programming. (Boston area)

i just got my fob and blank key from ebay, now i'm gonna call around to dealers to see if anyone can go lower than $120 for programming.

I'm in western NY (Rochester). The dealer here is Dorschel Infiniti.

hi,
so i called a couple of local nissan dealers and found one dealer who will charge me $50 to program and cut a key!

so after my $35 ebay fob and blank, and then $50 for the programming/cutting, i'm out $85 for a 2nd/spare key! definately beats the $210 that the dealer was going to charge me!

thanks for this forum

I've called around to several locksmiths/dealers and everyone has a different answer. So far I've heard it can't be done blah blah blah, it will cost $165 to program and cut because blah blah blah. The cheapest I've found is through a locksmith for $95. Gonna keep calling around. I got the switchblade from Ikeyless so my key doesn't scratch up my phones. Anyone know of a cheaper place in the D-FW?

I have done some digging. Is there a recall or similar problem with 2006 keys? Everything I found was with 2007 keys.
