Stopping Runaway Cars: Our Brake Technology

In the new Car and Driver, there is an article about runaway cars, based mostly on the current problems with Toyotas. In order to demonstrate how to stop a car with a stuck accelerator, they compared a Toyota Camry to a brand new Infiniti G37 Convertible.

In doing so, they revealed two pieces of technology that I did not know existed. My question is this: do older G35 (2007+) cars have the following abilities?

1. Car and Driver writes, "many automakers have added software to program the throttle to close--and therefore cut power--when the brakes are applied." Does a 2007 G35S have this technology, or is it only the new cars?

2. Car and Driver writes, "...whereas the Infiniti kills the engine after three rapid-fire presses." This in regards to the push button Start mechanism--the idea is that Infiniti will allow you to stop the engine if you push the start button three times in a row. Toyota does not offer this, but clearly, a new Infiniti does. Again, is this true in a 2007 G35S?

I will admit, I did not read my owner's manual from cover to cover, but I do not remember a section on stopping runaway cars. The triple button press is a good thing to know, and hopefully, some of the older Infiniti models have this technology.

I hope nobody will ever need to do this to their car, but at least it was useful information.

wow... great plug for Infiniti to be used in the comparison to Toyota.

...IDK for sure but I would imagine this change started when Infiniti went to the pushbutton start.
It should be easy enough to test.

Yes they can but, it takes longer then what the Infiniti does it in.

tbh, ask someone on the street or even your non car friends, what do you do if that problem happens, 99% of the time they dont have a clue.

G35 have had the fuel cut off when pressing the brake pedal for awhile that is why we can't do stand still burn outs

As far the push start i have not seen that personally

^ I thought it was the ABS or VDC systems that stopped burnouts. And you had to pull the fuses to them to do burnouts.

on non-push button cars cant you just shut the car off via the key when its running? or at least shift it into neutral so it stops accelerating

Yes the G35 has it all. +1 for Nissan/ Infiniti for being smart about brake over ride. Also as mentioned you can just hold the push bottom or hit it 2 or 3 times.

But I think Toyota/ Lexus has this just they have to hold the bottom longer. Could be wrong tho.

every drive by wire nissan/infiniti drops the throttle to 25% when the throttle and brake are pressed.

and yes my car cuts the motor when rapidly hitting the start button 3 times.
