Has anyone else experienced the black trim on the steering wheel (underneath the volume button) or on the side door handles scratching? It almost looks like the "black paint" has been scratched to show a white primer-like base. Does anyone know if there's a way to "buffer" these scratches out, or if Infiniti sells replacement steering wheel and door trim "covers"?

Search, there are threads on this. People had succesfully gotten the dealerships to replace their steering wheel and door handle trim (I haven't because mine strangely stayed scratch-free).

 

The dealer replaced my door handle trim no problem. However, they won't replace the steering wheel because it costs $1600 and the scratches are cosmetic....weird.

 

take it all apart, prep for paint, and rattle can the sob.. haha.. if dealer wont replace it for ya...

 

they wiull replace it and they replaced my stearing wheel too...

 

I sanded and painted mine black but the final vote from forum members was yuk didn't go with the interior. I painted them black with high gloss clear coat. So I went to the dealer and they replaced the steering wheel and all four door handles no questions asked. Everything now flows nicely again in the interior.

 

I have wondered if the pieces on the steering wheel that scratch are replaceable. Almost mostly every (7 out of 11) 07+ g35 sedan I have test drove must have been company cars for the Lee press on nails corporation.

The only reason I ask is because at this point is that the red S emblem on an automatic just isn't worth the extra 3k, and the paddle shift DIY seems like a fun project.

 

no they have to replace the whole steering wheel. After I got mine replaced I had to get another alignment and will be taking it back as the wheel is still not straight.

 

There's a ton of threads about this now... Couldn't search first?

The dealer did the same to mine, they had to re-align after replacing the steering wheel. I guess they were rushing and didn't mark the steering wheel orientation before removing it, which I plan to do when I install the sport paddles.

 

For those concerned, I just took my car to the dealership and they are replacing all the scratchesd pieces, including the steering wheel, without asking any questions. He did say it would be the same material, but I am hoping that isn't really the case.

 

Update: This is NOT the same material! My service writer said he was familiar with the problem.

I'm glad to have a brand new steering wheel.

Can one of you please post any sort of paperwork listing the steering wheel replacement under warranty so the rest of us have some backup if any issues at the dealer.

I am the 2nd owner of a 2007 g35 S(pearl white) and I have the exact same problem in almost the exact same places, Scratches by the door handles and on the steering wheel underneath the volume. For some reason I don't think the dealership is going to be very willing to replace my steering wheel free of charge, so my question is, how is the best way to approach this? Is there any reference I can turn to under the warranty, or do I just walk in and see what they say. I'd kind of like to have some back up if they try to dispute the claim. I have 53,000 miles currently and it is still considered certified. I also purchased the extended warranty and the electronic warranty. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
