Idle above 2k at start

Hey guys,

I am a proud new owner of an 07 g35x with 16k miles. I have had the car about 2 weeks and i noticed about two days ago that when i start my car, (whether in the morning when its cold or even after i have been driving it and its warm) its idling very high. As soon as i put it in gear, it immediately drops to 1k or below. What is causing this issue and is there a DIY fix for this or should I take it to the dealer?

Thanks!

Its normal to jump to above 2k and then drop down, just warm up your car for about a minute or two before you put it in gear to allow the rpms to drop and for proper oil circulation

^yup, completely normal.
It does that to get your car to nominal operating conditions faster.

Normal. Mine idles @ around 2k rpm on a cold start. However, my normal idle speed is a bit still too high. I plan on performing an idle relearn when I clean my throttle body and my MAF sensor.

My 07 has 15,300 as of today. It is not my daily beater so I'm sure others have it as a second car too.

I did the exact same thing. I bought it the day the dealer got it from the auction. Off a 2 year lease and whoever owned it babied this thing.

LOL. In the old days with carbs you could tap the gas pedal and stop the choke. The old days.
