Dogs in the car
I just bought a 2007 G35x. It has 45k miles, and the interior is VERY clean. I want to keep it that way, but I'd also like to get a dog soon.
Does anyone here have a dog? Is it allowed in the car? Does it mess up the leather? Do you use a cover or some other protection?
Thanks

Got an 85# lab. Doesn't get in the G much but we got a strap-in seat cover/hammock type thing from Pet-Smart:

Works fairly well. There is a company that makes custom covers and they look fantastic but they are $300.

I have a 45 lb dog and she comes with me all the time. I have a "rug" that I put on the surface of the passenger side of the back seat an she knows that is her spot and she won't move from there. I might get a nose smear on the glass from time to time, but she knows to stay put and doesn't damage anything.

I have a ...well kind of dog. Maybe around 8-10lbs. He rides in the G all the time with no issue. Nails trimmed down low all the time. All the damage he did in the car was the previously mentioned nose marks on the passanger side window. We took him with us on the long trip to the east coast with no issue at all. 18 hours drive.
I love my car but I love the dog even more. He is part of the family. Even if something would happen well it is just a car. You have a better chance to ruin the car with a little kid than the well trained dog. I think.

A baby will ruin a car. I can wipe up the smudges on the windows, hair, and dirt off the back seat in about 4 minutes. Spilled milk, sliding a carseat in and out, juice box, spit up, and diapers will ruin a car in a matter of days.
My car looks brand new on the inside, and I like to keep it that way, however it's not like it's some high dollar luxury ride. I'm driving a nissan with a fancy badge on the hood. My Wife and I treat our dog and cat like kids as thats our family. If the boy wants to be with the family, then let him ride.

I think for many of us a G35 is a high dollar luxury ride. It is for me, I've never owned anything nicer and don't expect to. Our dog is very important to us and he does ride in the G35 some. But, his nails, his hair, his slobber, his stink (labs that go outdoors are oily and smelly) can really ruin a leather back seat. So, we protect ours with a cover.
As for proof of his destructive nature, all you have to do is ride in the back seat of my 7 year old F-150 Supercrew that he has ridden in (a lot) for all those 7 years. It stinks! And the stink will not come out.
I wish I'd covered the back seat in my truck. A 4 door, Triton V8, 4x4 F-150 can cost as much as a G37. But, it _is_ a truck after all, not a leather seated sport sedan.
