How common are clockspring problems in the 08+ models?
ok so here's the update. my steering wheel buttons stopped functioning entirely (except the cruise control, which is a separate circuit) so last night i pulled the stereo out and disconnected my bluetooth module (parrot aftermarket) and my ipod adapter module. everything was fine.
then i reversed the order in which i had the harnesses hooked up for the aftermarket stuff to the stereo...(both the BT and ipod adapters connect inline with plug and play harnesses to the same main stereo harness which has the power coming in and control signals and sound output). originally i had it as:
factory --> ipod --> parrot --> Headunit
then i swapped it to:
factory --> parrot --> ipod --> Headunit
after this the ipod adapter and my xm completely stopped working and the steering wheel didn't work any more. i swapped it back and still had issues. the problem lies within the aftermarket harness for the parrot, since that is the latest thing i added on.
given that i don't use my ipod that often but use my XM radio constantly i removed the ipod adapter (PAC iSimple gateway) and will buy a USAspec version that plugs in at the xm receiver in the trunk. this will eliminate all my issues.
the parrot BT works just fine on its own but combined with the other harness it must be choking power from some other things, or the fact that i basically doubled the length of the stock harness must mess up something in the head unit due to changes in resistance. thats all i can come up with for now.
so in short you have to think about how many harnesses you're cramming in the back of your radio. its better this way though because i could barely fit all the wires back there with the BT brain, harnesses, ipod adapter, harnesses and my PAC VCI interface for my backup cam/carputer. too much stuff.
plus all i do is complain about the PAC iSimple so its time to step up and try the USAspec unit! one iSimple gateway for sale! LOL!!
thanks to all who helped! thankfully its not a clockspring issue!
cheers!
