pricing on a 2008 G35x sedan? CPO program?
pricing on a 2008 G35x sedan? CPO program?
So I've been looking at a used G sedan, preferably 2008 want the AWD (live in Nebraska) and have searched the internet, not EXTENSIVELY, but I've got a few in mind. My question is, is the CPO program worth the money? Cars sold through it are fully inspected, low mileage (under 60000), etc... it seems the cars enrolled are about 3-4grand more than comparable vehicles sold not thru an Infiniti dealer. What should I be on the lookout for with this particular model? I'm coming from a Legacy GT which I've been VERY happy with for the past 5 years, but just want a chage of scenery, and these G's seem the ****!
I think the CPO is worth the money if only for the piece of mind of knowing you won't have to break the bank on a major engine/drivetrain repair. You also get some other perks like roadside assistance, trip interuption benefits and loaner cars. Also you can be confident that you're not buying a lemon since a dealer most likely won't put a CPO warranty on a car with problems.
I decided to go CPO for the fact that the CPO warranty gave me piece of mind. Also, the CPO interest rates for financing were pretty decent when I bought my car (if I recall: 1.99%/36 2.69%/48; 3.69%/60). I think they are pretty similar now.
CPO program costs 3-4k more? My dealer said I could go with CPO on the car for only 1200 more...
Anyways, they did mention the differences between the two, which was negligible in my opinion.
You get 7 year/100,000 powertrain warranty on the CPO. However, the car already has 6 year/70,000 mile powertrain warranty. In my opinion, engines don't usually break down that quickly. With every car, you also get 4 year/60k bumper to bumper warranty on all Infinitis, which is transferrable. Paying 3-4k on an extra one year/30k mile coverage on the engine really isn't worth it. I highly doubt your engine will need major repairs by then.
You can also tell if the car has been in an accident if you know what to look for (paint differences, mismatched bumper, etc...). You may also have to feel the paint jobs between the panels different paint jobs have different textures. Also carfax can be used (although I don't find that to be purely reliable).
The dealer actually explained to me what CPO did. The perks do not really give me benefit. You can get roadside assistance for only 5 dollars a month from your cell phone provider. I already get loaner cars for any warranty work even at out of state dealerships.
Not everything is covered under the CPO. The electronics I believe are not covered.
BTW a car can still have CPO even if it has been in an accident. Normally, most dealers will make sure the car is great (every part is at least 70% or better), like brakes, tires, etc...The dealer has their own perks in certifying their used cars. Mine did all of that even without CPO. They just told me that CPO just means they have to send in paperwork to Infiniti Corporate.
Anyways, I got a Platinum Graphite 2007 G35x sedan in May of 2009 with Wood, Navigation, and Tech Packages for $28,200 at an Infiniti Dealer in New Jersey....It only had 21k miles on it. Given the rarity of the tech packages in the G35x sedans, I got a pretty good deal. The dealer also repainted by bumper, because it had small scratches on it (probably from parallel parking). The bumper looks perfect and nonscratched. I couldn't even tell it was repainted. The car had never had any accidents, and the engine runs great. I've had problems with the car, but all of them were covered under warranty for free. You can see my three year review in the thread.
Make sure when you get the car, inspect every single dent, scratch, etc...u may get leverage to lower down the prices. Also, make sure the interior door trims and the steering wheel as well as the shift ***** aren't scratched...I've noticed that on the 2007 vehicles these get scratched rather easily. Also, make sure anything that counts as wear and tear (brakes, tire tread depth) isn't like worn down.

When I bought my car the dealership gave me the option of with/without CPO coverage. The CPO was $1000 more. I chose to save the money and to not buy the CPO warranty. I still have several years of the factory warranty left, and I always have the option of buying an Infiniti Extended Protection Plan before it runs out.
I didn't realize tech was that rare on the X's. Maybe it was easier to get when I bought my G since I spec'd it for order?

Try to look for an 2007 or 2008 used Infiniti G35x with a Tech Package...usually all the dealers in the area only carry the non nav prem packages...sometimes even nav...but rarely having the tech with everything.
